First test footage

Took some of my first video on the t2i at sunset.

If anyone wants to take a look at it and offer any advice or improvement that'd be cool. Thanks.

Great shots and good quality, let me give you some pointers though.

Some shots were held a little too long , I believe a tighter edit would make this better. Secondly it would have been nice for you to have some more stable shots, tripod, rig, something else as most of the footage is very shaky.

You do not want every shot rock solid, shaky, handheld, etc. But if you mix them up IMO it makes the video more interesting. Go back out there and put your camera on some sticks, you will be amazed by the quality.

Thanks for the advice.

I wasn't too concerned with edit so just grabbed what was usable from clips. But it definitely could be tighter.

I agree that it is not a good handheld camera. I hate having to carry a tripod around with me though (especially situations where I'm just walking around or roaming streets) so am looking at different solutions.

The 50mm also has no IS so it can be tricky using that lens, which is unfortunate cause I'm starting to like primes over zoom lens'.

The Kit Lens is a great lens, many people for whatever reason do not like using it. I have shot professional music videos with the kit lens and they came out looking amazing. Also the kit lens has IS which works wonderful when doing hand held.

On the contrary I also have a 50mm which imo does shoot sharper, but the lack of IS truly makes your footage wobble to much. Personally I would keep prime lenses on sticks and some kind of rig. Zoom IS lenses are used by professionals in the commercial industry for a reason.

I love the look of prime lenses, but the lack of stabilization is the trade off. Now this is only my opinion regarding prime lenses and maybe some other user can shed better light.

Primes = Amazing quality, but 50mm and above you face serious camera shake when going hand held.

Zoom Lenses = You have to deal with variable apertures ( some not all ) and you get good quality ( not great like primes ) but the main advantage is being able to zoom and most zoom lenses have IS which allow you to record very easily hand held.

* Also I must note that if there is plenty of light, whether it be natural or artificial a zoom lens such as the kit can look just as good as any prime.
