First short with A1

This was a short I hacked together for a video contest. It was my first time using the XH-A1, and as such I recorded a lot of the images underexposed since the LCD makes the image appear brighter than it really is. There are a lot of small things I would have done better if I didn't have to make this deadline for the contest, but all in all I think it came out decent. I learned a lot this first time out with my camera, and am sure my next production will come out better.

Comments and feedback welcome.

Well done, I really enjoyed this. My only probelm with it...I would have done a bump and run with a 9 iron. It's tough to judge the speed putting through the rough.

Hey, thanks everyone for the positive feedback. I always receive good feedback from friends and family, but I guess I was expecting a lot more negative feedback from other film enthusiasts. I guess after spending hours working on a short, I'm my own biggest critic, since I end up watching it in its various stages a few dozen times by the time I finish editing and I'm aware of all its shortcomings.

Haha. The premise for the contest was to make a video that included an item related to golf. I don't actually play golf, so all I had was a pair of putters. I tried getting a local golf course to let us record on their property, but they said they would need a write-up of what we needed to film so they could approve it in a few days, and I had to leave for college the next day. I ended up filming on a soccer field, and filming the golf hole shots on a practice green at my school a week later, so we weren't even putting on the rough -- we were putting on grass horribly torn up by soccer cleats. Not at all ideal turf for golfing :P

I'm hoping I win this contest -- the top prize is an alienware computer, and I could definitely use it for editing HDV. Rendering any sort of effect is killing my current system.

LOL what were you spinning them on for the fast through the air shot. That was great.

P.S. Loved........ and his honour...... owwwwwwww.......owwwwwwww.

The ghetto method -- very very carefully hold camera at arm's length, trying to hold it as steady as possible, and spin in circles. I applied the steadimove plugin in post (which doesn't have as much custimization as I wish), and sped up the clips. The "draw" of the golf club shot was frame by frame rotoscoped on top of more "spinning in circles" footage. I didn't have access to a blue/green screen at the time, so I just went ahead and did it the extremely tedious way.
