First "real play" with RAW

I knew someone who needed some help making a music video, so I thought it be the perfect opportunity to play with the ML RAW format. The shoot took no more than 5-6 hours, the rendering of the files in AE from ACR took over 40 hours lol!!..

Its nothing special, but it was fun... and I will be using RAW an awful lot this year. Anyway, thought I would share :)

I am amazed that you were able to pull this shoot off in under six hours. Nice camera work and color grade -- a really sharp presentation all around!

As above ^.. I committed to RAW in a big way last week buying 7 64GB x1000CF cards. I shot at 1920 x 818 and used all 7 cards... I colour graded in ACR then added further colour grading using Colorista. The files rendered out with 16bit colour in AE... Some 40hrs later, they were ready to go...lol.. but there were lots of 3 minutes takes that took 80-100 minutes each to render out.. I looked at other solutions beofre dropping £600 on CF cards... but this is the best way for me and I dont regret my choice. We are DSLR film makers in this section, we want speed, efficiency and we have loads of gear so choosing not to bring a laptop to dump files and format cards on means less stuff.. I love my stuff, but I hate that I need it... less stuff is good!!

Looks great. Nice light, nice grade, nice edit. Where did you see the most advantage in using raw? Sharpness, DR, or colorspace for grading?

Firstly thanks guys.. I appreciate the kind words. Andrius: A simple answer is all of the above..

I love the detail RAW captures. The ability to take the footage and use ACR to further enhance the image is for me, it's biggest advantage. I shoot a lot of portrait photography, so I am very familiar with ACR. The sharpening and noise reduction as well as the ability to push and pull colour is very useful.

My version of ML is from February 2014.. and I have had no issues, its improving all the time. The Magic Lantern guys are an amazing group of people.

New Zealand.. Im so sorry, I cant as I dont have any. I had over 450GB of DNG's on my external drive and deleted them to get the space back... I only have the files that were rendered out. Is there anything that I can help you with, is there something that you are looking for?

Such a beautiful video. Well done! The color grade is epic! Were the different color eyes intentional?

Thanks imaj...

This girl is whacky as hell, she went to get changed and come back with "blue" contacts in... I was like "OK, lets just go with it".... The great thing about music video's is that anything goes... its a perfect opportunity to play around. :D
