First Project with my t2i!

Hey guys so im pretty new to this forum and i just recently bought a t2i. Anyways i have a 2-3 minute interview/video that i will be doing with a local artist for his upcoming show. I have a couple questions so that i can kind of be prepared for the shoot. So most of the video will consists of some interview questions and a few shots of the venue. I have an hv-20 and t2i and would like use both. Do you guys recommend it? I also have a rode videomic that i will be using for audio. Will this be sufficient enough for the interview? And would it be better do have it mounted on the hv-20 or the t2i?

Sorry if i posted in the wrong place! Any tips are greatly appreciated. I just want to be as prepared as possible!

TIA

I would say that there will be a largely noticeable quality difference between the two cameras. Especially if you are inter-cutting between the two for coverage on your final product. If it were me and it wasn't absolutely necessary to have both cameras rolling at the same time for coverage/time constraints I would shoot everything on the T2i. It will look better IMO.

Thanks for the response! i was thinking the same thing. I may just end up using the t2i.

Use the HV20 for audio and a wide shot? That'll give you some leverage to move around with the T2i and still get good audio. I'm shooting a short over the next few weeks and am planning on doing this same thing – mics through XLR adapter to the HV30, then using the T2i's audio as reference to sync in post. HOPEFULLY all will go well.

if the interview is going to go longer than 12 min. then use the HV20 for just the interview, the rest shoot on the t2i.

Haircut's idea is good too though, coverage with t2i but i'd want an operator on the HV20 so if its just you and assuming the interview will run longer than 12 min then HV20 would be useful.

The interview shouldn't be 12min i'm guessing it would be shorter than that. So I would basically be using the hv-20 for audio?

Sounds like that's what you should do. Do you have an external mic to hook up to the hv20? This would be your best option since it would allow you to get the sound OFF the camera and right up on the talent/interviewee. If you're just using the hv20's built-in mic, get it close to the person speaking – as close as you can out of frame – and adjust your levels accordingly. Then you can shoot with your t2i and sync to the hv's audio in post.

But then again this all begs the question: why not just use the hv20 for the whole thing? I know you have a new toy and want to play, but if this is a "mission critical" shoot, I'd just use the hv. But I would DEFINITELY get an external mic. I'm sure you know the tape drive in the hv is fairly loud.

I'm thinking of doing something similar for a short: using my HG20 for a master shot and audio and the t2i for coverage. Anyone tried this? Any issues with syncing sound from an HV/HG/HF/Vixia/Whatever to footage shot on a t2i or 7D? How noticeable is the difference in image quality when cutting between them?

Well I do have a rode video mic that I will be using. Would the mic be better to use with the hv20 than the t2I?how hard would it be to match the hv20 footage with the t2I?
