There were some nice shots but a lot of it is redundant. Also I would have put some singing from the singer herself.

Good Job otherwise

Everyone's a critic. Really liked it one of the nicer C100 music videos I have seen on here.

The obvious thing would have been to put the singer in it, and its a stronger piece because you didn't.

Not a bad song, although I couldn't seem to make a connection between the visuals and the music. Using a reflector or some kind of bounce during the closeups would have given their eyes a bit more life. Also showing the actual singer would have made it feel more like a music video instead of a random montage of scenes.

The aerials get a bit redundant as someone else mentioned, there should be a motivated reason to cut to them rather then the randomness that's kind of going on. Couple of great shots in here though, keep it up!

You are correct...everyone is a critic...and thats what is being asked...to criticize...in a creative way...this video. I work for a record label on the east coast. 100% of my work is music video related. That said...take my constructive comments with a grain of salt. All video...especial ambiguous imagery is all subject to ones own personal taste in art.

Positives...you have some nice looking images. I liked the black and white vibe. Nice use of drones...shots seem nice and steady. Its a nice collection of images.

Creative criticism: This video does not go anywhere. I think your ability to pull a view into the mind of the artist (songwriter and DP) can be greatly enhanced in the preproduction stages of the process. Storyboard. Have a direction. Have a goal...a place you are taking them too...either through transitional "mood" imagery or through visual storyline. With this video...it seemed more "to me" of an exercise in getting equipment to look and function well...rather than taking the viewer through the song to a the real point and meaning of things. Just seems....after the first 20 seconds...we know exactly what this is about...then see it for the rest of the video. There is not a strong sense of direction and "reveal."

That said...you obviously know how to operate the equipment. I would say...invest solid time into preproduction storyboarding...and your projects with skyrocket in meaning and value. Your good. I would suggest now just focus on "what this art is trying to say."

Well done though. It definitely has a mood that fits the song.

For a good example of this style of video that I personal think works well....check out any of the Sigur Ros videos. They are very abstract...and absolutely have amazing direction. Each one of them has 1 thing in common...."the reveal." That is the single most valuable asset you have in a 5 minute video. Have something to reveal. Hide it....hold it back....then...let them in on it. People like that...at least I do.

I like that the artist worked with the overcast skys on all the beach shots. When with the desaturated feel. I like it, would think the suggestions by ReelWorksMedia are valid.

Thanks for all the reply's, means a lot to me...

Most criticism is valid, we did not have a storyboard or something, that will be something for the new clip. As we have a lot more songs to cover :-)
About the singing in the video, this is something we choose to do, and we think its better this way.

The whole point of this video was to get more people listen to our music, in this time and age everybody listens (sadly) to songs on youtube with a static picture, songs with better clips get more attention.
Its all hobby for the both of us, so time is not always on our side as we wanted to do this for a long time.

Thanks, you are right about the reflector, left it at home :( Lesson learned
As for showing the actual singer, she IS the actual singer haha

Will be taking your advice into account, thanks. BTW the singer and me are the songwriters and DP at the same time..

Cheers

Couldn't agree more. I would even add that preprod is more important than the shooting itself.
