First music video attempt

No comments? Thats unusual for this community :-)

Don't let me be one of those unfortunate singers from American Idol who's family and friends were being to kind to let them know they can't sing.

Since this is my first effort your input will help me improve. Thanks.

Looks cool

Dude, your MV looks real cool, its a great song too. I like your camera movements and BW effect!

Take my comments with grain of salt since I'm very new to this HD video thing. The camera movements were a bit too shaky for me on some of them, but I wasn't sure if that was perhaps the look you were going for. I tend to get dizzy just pushing my kids on the swing, HA! so don't give too much credence to my comment.

The red hat was pretty cool! I like that a lot! :)

Music was great.

Camera work was a bit herkey jerkey.

Nice attempt.

I think with some reshooting and editing you could make a great video with this concept and music.

Thanks for the input. Yes I agree its a bit jerky. I was intentionally trying to get some movement because it seemed thats how the people were seeing things. It's a little over the top on movement because to tell you the truth I was scared to be by myself with an expensive camera in that environment. Very dangerous. I've had many thoughts on how to improve upon it by re-shooting and reshaping the edit but have not had the time yet. I really appreciate your input. It's important to know how viewers see it and react. Technical and artistic input added to viewer reactions are what will help me to learn and improve. Thanks again.

Jim,

I wouldn't change anything from this video! I actually like the frantic camera move, it keeps your attention while keeping true to the vision inside your head, and most importantly the song! Great combination of contrasting the BW footage with great composition inspired by the "Street' life.

Excellent 1st attempt, man! Keep it up.

PS
I know how you feel when you take the A1 in some rough parts...but the thing is, getting your shot is the most important part. Well worth it in my book

Pretty good....

Pretty good....

...first attempt. I tend to cut a lot faster than you, esp. in music vid work, but each to their own. Was well worth watching. I've seen lots worse that people paid major $$$ to have made.

Of course, the XH-A1 was a total waste for that kind of work. I would have used my older *and much smaller/lighter* Sony A1U for those outdoor shots. Maybe that's because I'm lazy. I'm not really steady doing handheld work with the XH-A1 yet, and it's possible that I'll always use it for tripod stuff and keep on using the Sony for run-and-gun "guerilla" shooting.

If you want to chat F2f or play/work together, email or some such. We only live about an hour apart.

I like the images and cuts. Nice job. It left me wondering about the outcome of the people.....backpack guy and girl with dog. I didn't connect the end part with the little girl and doll though.

Tom:
I was trying to suggest that the little girl could have been the girl walking the dog or could have ended up like any of the other characters based on her choices in life. Notice the whiskey bottle in the dolls arms.

I didn't think this one called for faster cuts based on the music and the message. I made several versions before settling on this one. But, yeah, there's a million ways to skin a cat. Guess this was just how I was feeling at the time. I sold my A1U to but the Canon - nice little camera though

thanks for everyone's input
