First Local Commercial!

@ Jerrod: Yeah, experiment, no doubt. Practice makes perfect. That's what we're here for, to bounce ideas off one another.

I haven't really tried shooting food with a DSLR yet. Mostly what I've shot was with an HVX if you saw that food reel. My plan is to hit some local restaurants and do some shooting for the web.

That would be my dream gig, shooting food. Like my wife says, the food doesn't talk back.
*grumble* just the clients & agencies

nicer spot for sure but i tend to agree with kholi. people that are only willing to pay $350 for a commercial deserve a $350 commercial. it's cool you are friends with the guy but the more this kind of thing happens, the more of a "standard" it's going to become.

if an excited car manufacturer made and sold a car for 1/10 the price of everyone else just to have fun and get it out there, it would drive prices down across the industry. it's a slippery slope...

Okay, I think I'll throw in my 2 cents too.

I started off with nothing too and did several jobs super cheap or even pro bono. I don't think this is a bad thing to do, but don't lock yourself in as the "cheap guy".

If you look at the original commercial producers YouTube page you'll see that he has over 50 videos, most of which are commercials. Now how could he have that much if they all "suck"? Because he's probably good at networking. Networking is more important than quality in this business. I'm not saying you shouldn't be good, but there's a reason sub-par productions make it to broadcast.

So listen to Kholi's advice. Don't be going around bad mouthing the competition. Set yourself apart from them. In my town, I discovered I had two options. Be the guy that cranks out cheap commercials, or be the guy that does a handful of high quality commercials. I leaned to the second and instead of getting five $300 commercial jobs a month, I usually get one $4000 commercial job every other month.

And where is the down side in that? Cars are overpriced and underperforming

I really love what you did with it. I hate seeing commercials of the original's "quality" run on television. I always think, "I could do so much better with that" and you completely exemplified it!

Great use of 60P too!

Bravo

Great job man!!!!
But you're wrong, it's not a billion times better, it's more like a billion and a half. Whoever shot the original commercial should be... shot!

Well, don´t shoot him. he made a $300 ad. that´s how it looks.

The new one should be 4 times the money at least. but the market makes the prices....

good job anyway!

Angry Leprechaun, I was just curious how you solved the problem of maintaining focus on the crane shot. Did you just wing it or have they finally created a chord long enough to monitor your T2i?

I could actually see it pretty well just watching the LCD screen from behind. I just matched the focus of the sign and marked where the owners had to stop to stay in focus.
