Last week I purchased the XH-A1 with the RedRock kit, and having been using the HV20 for the past few years I was slightly overwhelmed with the controls and such. Been trying to teach myself and this is the first footage I've shot.

I would love some input/suggestions; I was playing with the aperture/iris and such and it looks washed out at times and what not. If you guys have any tips, that would be awesome. Thanks for looking.

The default mode for the A1 is intended to preserved the highs and lows, but needs to be color graded to get the full dynamic range.

If you want it to look great with minimal fussing I suggest you get some presets from the presets thread. These will alter the gamma, knee, black, color saturation, etc.

My favorites are panalook, trucolor, vivid, naturalo, and bleachbypass.

Read the thread carefully on how to put the precompiled presets in the proper directory on the card. People often misspell the directory. Also, even though there are over 40 presets, the camera can only find 20, and only load 6 at a time. (Three are built 3+6 = spaces 1-9)

FYI, for optimum pictures make sure your auto gain control AGC is off, and IMHO you might as well turn off your audio gain too. I set the manual gain for -3, 0 and 6db. Those will give the best pictures.

Yeah I was playing around with the Presets and was using Panavision for much of the test as well as Fanafilm, which was supposedly intended for the use with an adapter. I always keep the AGC off only b/c I've found it to be a little too frustratings.

Thanks for the tips though. I'll look into more of the Presets just to expand my library
