F5: First F5 Footage: The Contract

hey nate,
just thinking form a marketing standpoint, for if the f5 footage was visually and qualitywise as good as the f55 then probably the f5 would sell better...
as for now everyone i talked to tends to think the f55 is much better and worth the additional money...
still, nobody seen this french footage?

Ok, but I imagine they would have thought of that before handing the camera off for marketing purposes. I think the more likely reasons are it didn't turn out that well visually, or it's hung up on some other production snag.

I'm sure Sony marketing teams the world over has noticed that the intended audience is pulling absolutely NO punches in appraisal of the release materials, so if it's less that great it's probably in hiding.

I have to say, having witnessed a few camera launches via internet forums, this one is by a fair amount the most critical I've seen. People are becoming very hard to please.

LOL. I was remembering Red posting footage of a lizard breathing and all the fanbois shouting 'MAN WHAT FANTASTIC FOOTAGE!' :zombie_smiley:

Hey Nate,
maybe it's bad footy or direction or story.
but i listened to the interview with cinematographer (in french on vimeo) and by the tone of it he was very pleased with the cam.
anyway,
i think people start to realize that there are so many great cameras out there, that not even 20 stops of DR will be that mega-launch someone is hoping for i think.
the next "mini" mega launch would for me be a s35 4k camera recording directly to prores/avid, with built in wi-fi capabilities to monitor on set and stream in broadcast quality, with 240 fps in 1080. well. we're so close with the f's... ;-)

though this cam wouldn't amke me a better filmer.

I think that the guys slating this edit are being a bit harsh. Yeah, it's not the best production ever and I think that the grade could have been executed better. But all in all, I actually thought it displayed some amazing qualities and if it was put out there to inspire me to buy it, it worked. 1 point to Sony.

I saw the French footage at Camerimage in Poland. I thought it looked really impressive on the big screen. It was a very simple story shot in one location with very little light. I'm not sure why it isn't out there, but Sony must have their reasons. I thought it looked great though and the 2k XAVC really held up.

Can someone provide a link to the girl crying in the field of flowers video everyone keeps referring to? That is just cracking me up.
