first DVX100B footage

Got my 100B yesterday and had it out today for a few hours playing with the iris, shutter speed, scene files etc. I put together 2 minutes of clips mostly messing with depth of field. I'd love to get any feedback you might have.

The biggest thing I had trouble with was focusing. I found it hard to detect crisp focus on the LCD and viewfinder. Probably just takes practice. Are external monitors an option if I want to do hand held shooting mostly?

This forum was a lot of help in deciding to get the camera and then in making it work. I used the "8-ball" scene settings today and really liked the colors.

Definitely invest in a tripod. There's no reason to shoot that much hand held.

Looks very nice. To help with focus, switch your viewfinder to monochrome (turn the color off). It's easier to judge focus in b/w. Though I have had no problem focusing (100A) with th eflip-out LCD, I still keep my v/f set to monochrome and use it more often than not. And when running hand held, the v/f is your best option... that is, until you need to hold the camera overhead or in other awkward positions where you can't get your eye to the eyepiece.

Be sure to focus the diopter on the viewfinder to match your eye. The focuser is on the viewfinder. Adjust it until the lettering in the viewfinder is crisp and sharp. If the diopter is not focused, it will be very difficult to know when the camera is properly focused. Nice footage, by the way.

Thanks for the comments.

That was 24p. I think the color had to do with two things: the 8-ball high press scene file that I found here, and the fact that I was shooting mostly south facing things in the late afternoon with some direct sun.

I'm planning to get a tripod soon. All hand held only because it was my first day with the camera. As for focusing the viewfinder I did that. Another thing that bothers me about the viewfinder is that the LCD has to be closed for it to be on (though I think I can turn that off). The bottom line is I wish the shutter controls were not under the LCD.

I'll try setting the view finder to monochrome. Thanks for the tip.

u can set the viewfinder and lcd to be on at the same time. i have my VF in black and white sometimes and leave the lcd colour.

lemi get my cam to see how...

go to menu>>display setup>> EVF mode>> ON
to set the VF in black and white "EVF color" is directly underneath
