Looks totally awesome. Couldn't believe how good the sound was, seriously felt like true film production in every sense of the word.

WOW. My only gripe is the twixtor artifacts... but WOW. Looks and sounds amazing!

Seriously, even the most respectable indie features are almost always plagued with odd sound quirks and slightly tinny / hollow sound, but this is for real. I'm definitely impressed. I want to know how he got an NTG-2 to sound like that and how he did his foley.

Any idea what (if any) hacks he uses? I always enjoy watching the making of.... Love the rope to the subject!

Not my kind of genre (or from the preview it doesn't look like my kind of genre), however it pulled me in and I lost myself in the story not seeing the imperfections.

For me, this is the best use I've seen of the GH2. Looks and sounds super professional, with great acting, composition, lighting, editing, foley and music. All the elements come together to form a visceral story that offers no compromise when compared to the "big boys" in Hollywood. As soon as this film is available to be viewed in New York City, I'll be first in line.

I actually don't care much for the look of the film. That sort of aesthetic isn't really appealing to me. The sound is absolutely fabulous, and it is very well directed though. Tension is built up very well, even in that very short sequence.

I agree with wolfenbarg, I'm not fond of the look of this as well but the acting, directing and sound is so on point that the asthetics is the last thing that comes to mind. This is pure proof that visuals is not the overall seal of the deal and without all the rest of the elements you have a subpar film.

I don't specifically know what patch, but I remember reading an interview and it was a 42mbit one, no name mentioned though.

The asthetic is fine for me. This clip/movie is well made and looks very nice, Bravo - but if you are going to compare it to "hollywood" what is glaring is the gross bokeh. The slo-mo makes this even worse. The GH2 is amazing for its cost but you can not replace the look of great lenses.

Not an issue for normal viewers but it is still there.

I'm personally getting sick to death of the DSLR handheld look.

Cool build up, though.

What is the "aesthetic" you guys don't like? Color grade? Steady handheld shots?

It's the DSLR look.
Generally lots of close ups, handheld, burnt yellows, short depth of field, lens flare etc.

Versubio is doing some great work though, so I'm not aiming this at him at all.

Looks and sounds very good. I agree every shot doesn't need to be narrow depth of field close ups and there is one overdone boomy fake wind sound effect that is a bit annoying - the rest of the sound is spot on awesome and overall this looks and sounds great. I'm not much for the torture genera but hey this is very good work.

IMO What you guys are describing as the DSLR look is pretty much the look of a lot of content shot on various formats, film included. And, mostly, crutches for low budget productions. Especially shooting most of the content out in tights. If you don't have the money to get the best shot wide, then you get the best shot that still allows you to move the visual narrative.

People've been shooting this way with S16, it's really no different.

You have to do what you have to do to get stuff done.

IN case anyone's looking for recent examples, just look at Aronofsky's work. Yes, there are locked off shots, yes there are wides, yet a lot of Black Swan and The Wrestler's handheld medium ones, tights, medium twos etc. Roaming camera (very planned roaming), walking and following mediums, so on and so forth.

It's really nothing specific tothis generation of shooters...

I agree Kholi. Plus people have to remember that this is just 5 mintutes of what's supposed to be a feature. The type of shots we see here work for the type of scene we viewed. The narrower field of view gave me a sort of sense of urgency.

Well...it's a GH-2. People will always find fault with the way it's shot because they know it was shot on a DSLR.

When I said the handheld DSLR look, I wasn't talking about the shot choices. I was talking about the handheld jitter that you only get from holding a small cam like the GH2 w/ no OIS.

I think in general, handheld or steadycam is way overdone compared to locked down shots, as far as my taste goes. At least on big productions, they have a graceful, slow bob and bounce. It's the rapid fire micro jitters in many DSLR shorts that I'm personally not a fan of.

Hey look, Ian, someone's using the term Micro-Jitters xD

Yeah, I'm not a fan of those, either. I didn't really catch them in this but admittedly I didn't really stay for the entire clip. I ended up skipping around.
