FS7: Firmware V3.0 Released? [Interval Recording, Focus Magnification area position+more]

On Twitter (yesterday), Sony Europe have said that firmware v3.0 "will come within 2015".
Bloody hope so!

Each firmware update was coming within three months timeframe. Are they slowing down development and it no longer be the case?

Why do some people think this is the end of the line for firmware updates for the fs7?

I really wish they would add a simple rec symbol to the viewfinder that was visible when the rest of the icons aren't displayed. I hate shooting with text overlays but I like to know when I am recording and at the moment its one or the other.

I was just talking about this the other day.

Do you really think that I didn't have some fun saying this?

Look, most of us have their experience with Sonys customer support. Don't you?

I try not to believe that Sony will work for years on existing models. They give estimated dates with some features for the next Firmware and sometimes things happen.
But most of the time these improvements are put straight into New cameras. The F5/55 are another story at some point, but remember the 4k thing?

I have seen the FS5 at IBC last month and what would I give to have the features and quick response in my FS7.
I doubt this is gonna happen.

YMMV

By golly, I would pay good money to be able to have that dang red light on while everything else is off the screen. There have been a couple of times where not having the light has burned me.

With the exception of BMD, who have shipped half baked cameras on the regular and have no choice BUT to constantly update firmware, which camera manufacturer is well known for improving their existing product line?

I can think of none. All they want is for us to buy the next thing.

FS7 still is better in a great many ways vs FS5. Anyone who has used one will easily be able to point those out. If you have no need for those features then it's understandable but they are definitely not the same thing.

Red continue to release new free firmware with new features and colour science for Epic and Scarlet 4 years after their release.

But they sort of have to...that's essentially what they're selling. They've upgraded sensors inside of the same body for quite a while. Granted now they're going to a different body with Weapon/Raven but it's not apples-to-apples as Sony releases totally different cameras about once a year. Red has to continue to update their firmware/software or they become "obsolete".

Why did they suddenly have to give my old Scarlet tools like Gioscope and WS aspect ratio filming at higher frame rates for free? Things it never came with or were scheduled to come with. They weren't bug fixes or new sensor-related or paid add-ons.

Red realised they could do a thing and so did it and released it for free. And continue to do so.

Very few cameras out there as good as an Epic MX even now. And yet Dragon has been out how long, and Weapon been shipping for a while...
