Firmware updates

I figured since the first firmware update is out maybe we should notify Panasonic of other issues we'd like updates on.
This is a small list of what's bothering me right now with camera (regarding software)

1. More scene files on SD card, 4 scene files on SD limitation is unnecessary, I'd like to have more options.
2. Full viewfinder view. The HMC150 uses a very small portion of the viewfinder to show the image, why is that? when you use the expanded mode it utilises all the viewfinder, I don't think it'll be so hard to modify the HMC to do that.
3. make option to turn off viewfinder to save power.
4. Review last clip assignable by USER buttons. I want to be able at the touch of a button to review the last video I've shot.
5. Frame rate is wrong on header of 720/25p files (appears as 50). when viewing MTS files (in windows) from 720/25p HMC151 footage the header says it's 50 fps, which makes it very difficult to transcode using certain applications.
*6. (Not really camera related) AVCCAM viewer improve! manage meta files on SD card, manage scene files, upload external videos to SD so camera can read it's contents. AVCCAM viewer could have been a great tool to manage your HMC footage but instead it's really limited and for me not really useful.

I'm sure there's LOTS more but this is what's on my mind at the moment.

Please write down all other suggestions (write only firmware related ones, and stuff that they can actually do, nothing FANCY that will require intensive software engineering)

Hope that once we finish this list we can send it somewhere and maybe they'll do something about it.
But maybe I'm just naive...

1) Just for clarification, you do know that each of those files on the card includes six scene files, right? It's not like you can only store 4 scene files, you actually are storing 24 scene files; each file on the card is a package of six scene files.

2) That's bizarre; I just tried it on a 150 and you're right, it clearly uses less of the available VF space. The LCD panel doesn't work that way...
3) agreed
4) You know about the rec check button, right? It lets you review the last few seconds, but not the whole clip...

1) Yes, I do know, but I'd like more options, it's more for the sake of sharing Scene files, in that way you can put lots of scene files by different users and swtich between them more easily.
4) I didn't know of that option, that's great, but reviewing last clip would be better won't it?

5) Does that occur in 24/30p files as well?

1) As a workaround for extra scene files, just put different files on different cards. You could probably even use old (lets say) 16MB ones that are useless for anything else today!

5) Does the 151 even record 25p native? I didn't see that noted in the specs, so it may be that it records it over 50i/p just like the hmc150 does with 30p over 60i/p. People have the same problems with those files and certain software (could be fixed in time). 24p is native and does not have this problem.

Meta Data is a bit of a pain since you have to remember to create it on your computer before going out. Would be nice if you could enter in at least a title. Also, it only displays a number and date when listing the files. You have to keep loading and checking the info to find the right one, it should list them by title.

Would be cool if you could assign a user button to cycle through recording modes (framerates).

Longer exposure times!

It does 25p but no 24p.

When the System Freq on the 151 is set to 59.9 Hz it can record at 1080/24P (native recording) or 720/24P (native recording) just like the 150. Please see page 91 and 111 of the down loadavle user manual.

The 151 has the shooting modes of the 150 and 152 combined.

That's true. Because it is PAL/NTSC-switchable. I was only referring to PAL mode because that's the native mode for countries where the 151 is sold.
If you switch to NTSC you will also need to adjust all your scene files and stuff. 24p is pointless anyway, dunno why people stick to that old heritage.

It does 25p but no 24p.
I understand it records in 25p, the question is, does it record the frames in a native 25p stream or over a 50i/p stream? If it is the latter (like the 150 in 30p), there there isn't an easy fix to this in the firmware, the fix you are looking for would be in the software.

This is similar to when the DVX first came out and people had to wait for the software to catch up to actually recognize 24p streams as 24p instead of 60i.

I wouldn't make that comment about 24p being pointless, a lot of people on here would take great offense to that! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
