GH3 Firmware update this month!

The good thing is, that when firmware is out, Vitalyi will have something to hack!
I dont think Panasonic will give us what we want….

I just want my screen info to STOP going away, man that's annoying!!

Yeah. It's disingenuous of Panasonic to have promoted this camera as a Semi-Pro camera with all the stuff that's Still missing.
I say we keep the pressure on and avoid buying the camera altogether if you can wait.
For less money, Nikon is starting to look serious. Who knows what the Panasonic development team will "pull out of the hat"
come Photokina in September.
I'm waiting and bitchin

There is absolutely no reason not to buy this camera! Having actually owned and used the GH3 since December, I can guarantee there is much to like, and little to "*****" about.

Could not agree more... Hacks will be coming soon as well which will make an already good camera even better. No regrets here...

I agree with zephyr... customer pressure to improve this camera can only benefit us as consumers, regarless of it being a great or ok camera! Im with you zephyr!

They do say "and more", which might include some nice extras.

Can't wait for the hacks to arrive...

I would love to be able to shoot ALL I-Frames at 150 Mbps or IBP MOVs at 100 Mbps.

I hope you are right, but I have a hard time believing that the "and more" means anything as significant as the things we really want.
Otherwise, that would be one of the listed features along with the intravolemeter adjustment. They have no reason to hold out the reveal
of a feature unless they are still doing from testing.

Really? Seems they are fixing about three small issues with an as yet unknown "other fixes as well" in the works. Hopefully some of the top three problems will be addressed in the next 6 months.

FROM DVX USER.COM and MORE
1) Stop screen info from disappearing
2) Focus Peaking
3) Zebras
4) Improved Wifi video features (even just basic full control via wifi would be great)
5) pro picture profiles for video. Optimized for flattest reasonable 8 bit profile
6) Panasonic official bitrate improvement on All-I modes. HQ mode warning for certain cards. 150mb/s bitrate. Let the codec breath for pro users. Lots of warnings but make it standard.
7) A lock on the media card door
8) A lock of User Interface Buttons that are too closely situated near camera body grip points.
9) Elimination of micro shaking in the 12-35 f2.8 Lumix zoom even when IS is off and the camera is on a tripod pointed downwards.
10) Method for disabling AGC in audio menu

I think Zephyrnoid's list is a fair one. The lack of peaking especially is seriously disappointing, more so with the lame excuses that the camera's processor couldn't do it when it'll take as much if not more processing power to apply some of the effects the GH3 has. Also the fact Panasonic kept saying "maybe" and "in a future firmware" just until the early adopters bought units, it's cynical really.

If in future Blackmagic made a camera that was more suited to run and gun, or if Olympus improved its video and added peaking I'd change cameras. For me I still find I have to work around some GH3 limitations, some I can't and remain to bug me.

The annoying thing is, I'd pay extra for peaking, if say Panasonic introduced an apps system for the firmware where you could download functionality at a cost, then it'd be a win win for photographers and Panasonic.

This camera has been put on hold as a possible choice for a DVX100 replacement. One of the big reasons is the 12-35 lens shaking and the audio. It would be $1,000 bucks cheaper than the 5DMarkIII with the 24-105 lens kit (showing in cart $3489) and I'd sure like to save a grand.

The audio is great with the GH3, just don't expect to get away with the built-in pre-amps. You have to use external pre-amps or a good UHF wireless system, which is the case with every other DSLR camera, so this is not an issue at all. With the right audio gear you can record uncompressed LPCM audio with a -66 dB noise-floor, which is better than any other DLSR camera at this point in time.

...The 12-35mm lens is great too, but does have a few small quirks at the moment, I am hoping that a firmware fix will take care of these things:

- The lens jitter when pointing down on a locked-off tripod shot ( makes no difference for handheld shots, or with level shots on a tripod )

- You can't get one fixed exposure as you zoom this lens, you will see micro-exposure changes as you shoot.

There is no Photokina in 2013. Unless you mean waiting until 2014.

I'd love for this to be true. The first (jitters) seems possible to fix, but lpowell had a post here somewhere about the 12-35 and from what I understood, the exposure flicker while zooming is never going to be fixed on this lens due to how it's built... yeah, I know, this is very bad, as there are situations where I absolutely need to zoom.

Sounds like the 5dmarkIII is pretty good for audio. For a $1300 lens it should not have issues like that. I really like how the gh3 looks and saving $1'000 for other stuff. I have a couple of weeks to decide. Thanks

I haven't had a chance to test the audio of a Canon 5D Mk3, so I really can't comment on it. The last Canon I tested was the Canon 60D camera, which had a noise-floor of -51 dB, which is too noisy for professional audio. I have heard that the Magic Lantern hack improves the audio of the 60D, but I sold my 60D before I had a chance to try this out.

For a $1300 lens it should not have issues like that.

Yes, I completely agree, but right now it's the best lens in the 12-35mm range. Olympus is supposed to be working on a similar lens, but I don't know when it will hit the market. ( likely no OIS as Olympus does this in-body )

I forgot yes! GASPS!
So who want to handicap the future developments?

- Is Panasonic just plodding along in anticipation of its own breakthrough camera ? If so, when would they release such a camera?
- Is Nikon to be closely watched as the 50% cheaper D7100 starts some video buz in DX format land?
- Will Canon finally bridge the gap with the Mirrorless and 4/3 sensor GH3 ?
- Will BMCC turn from being a glorified Doorstop in beta to a more boxlike form-factor?

I highly doubt you're going to get focus peaking on the GH3.

yeah. According to Panasonic, the 'current' Venus engine in the GH3 disallows focus peaking. So what do you anticipate Panasonic might do to replace the hobbled Venus engine with one that can deliver focus peaking? Further, if focus peaking is available on external monitors will that be enough or should customers expect in on the GH3 at its current MSRP price-point?
