Firmware update request list!

We know the LCD flip cant be done in a firmware update so let's leave that of the list.

1) Being able to name P2 cards when formatting would be a huge help when off loading via a PCMCIA slot in a laptop, as it can get confusing when dealing with more than a few cards at a time on a shoot. It would be great to be able to put a card in the camera hit format and have the option of naming the card. eg. A001, A002, A003 etc.

2) Having the option of which audio tracks to record enable.

Add away, but try and keep it to software based requests.

Add a new function, DELETE LAST CLIP, and allow it to be assigned to a USER button.

(Not that I record alot of garbage!)

Good suggestion, but it could get dangerous having it assigned to a user button!

I'm not suggesting that there shouldn't be a confirmation -- it should behave the same way as the delete operation in MCR mode.

Boy would this be a plus.

Rather than switching modes, hitting buttons, scrolling down a drop down menu, and hoping you don't hit format.

Ditto ditto ditto

I've made some of these suggestions to Jan but if someone is making a list.

-add a USER definable button option to lock/unlock the focus/zoom values - once locked any rotating of the rings does nothing (useful to M2 users)

-a variation of REC CHECK that played back the whole last clip - not just the last few seconds

-the ability to change Zoom/Focus numbers betweem ft/mm and 'units' as a USER definable button

-the ability to turn off BOTH flip out LCD and eyepiece LCD (also as a USER definable button) - could save some power if you are using an external LCD/monitor (but on second thought that could be problematic - drop the last one)

There is already a COUPLE threads for this.. Please Search before posting. Thanks

Sorry Sur Board Police but I did do a search and most of the threads deal with LCD flip, so that is why I suggested leaving that out of this thread. I also figured it would be a good idea to have a list compiled in one thread. If you could point us to a thread the same as this, then I guess you could close this one down and we can add our points to the previous thread.:dankk2:

It would be nice to assign multiple actions to the user buttons. If I want to swap between 60p over 24p along with a shutter speed change and detail settings.

I second being able to lock the focus and zoom. Good call.
Would anyone else find it useful to remap the arrow keys that navigate through the menus? If you have the screen flipped out to the side, the layout of the menu keys is counter-intuitive.

could you please help me understand the necessity of this proposed function <delete last clip>? i've yet to run into any problems related to the last clip file, but would love to understand the issue at hand.

thanks in advance,

rs

If you get a bad take of something and you know it, it saves you from having to go into MCR mode, marking the clip, bringing up the Operations menu, and selecting Delete. Going into and out of MCR mode also skews the free-running timecode.

Good example is when you are shooting sports, start the record, and there is a penalty called, etc.

Clip is basically no good, like to delete it with a single button push and confirm

I'm still big on having options to automate as much metadata as possible, I.E. auto naming of take number.

I'd also like to see some metadata be able to be assigned globally to all clips on any given P2 card. I.E. all clips on a card get their scene number and shooter/director metadata globally updated all at once instead of have to assign this to each clip individually.

When you load metadata, it all gets attached to any clip that gets created (or not, depending on whether you instruct the camera to attach the metadata).

Sorry Barry, wasn't really thinking on that one... what I wanted to say was changing frame rate (recording frame rate) and other scene file settings using the user buttons (which are easier than the scene dial when running around). Scene file pretty much does it though. I'll 2nd on the delete last clip option.
