Firmware Update on AF100, and the Mac

mac update procedure for af100

mac update procedure for af100

Hi guys,

Can anyone please give me the exact steps I need to take to update the af100s' firmware. I am using a mac and have run the patch but I am unsure if I am doing it correctly. Please give me the very basics.. Thanks !!

I downloaded the patch and firmware, drag and dropped them on the card, put the card in the camera, selected update in the menu and bam.

Has anyone had success upgrading firmware using Lion? I spent an entire morning trying to get it to work without success.

After the whole 1.15 hassle with the patch, was really looking forward to a simple install of 1.17 without needing to do anything other than following normal procedure. But I wasn't even able to copy the PRIVATE folder from the update to the card. I was getting the message: "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "VSIS5257L.img" can't be read or written. (Error code - 36)"

So I'm thinking that sounds kind of familiar - maybe the 1.15 update didn't get rid of the need for the patch after all. But no - no matter what I tried - using the patch, even deleting the PRIVATE folder manually instead of using Replace - nothing worked - I always got the Check Card message in camera. And the patch would indicate everything was OK. Obviously, the problem is related to replacing the PRIVATE folder.

Then I remembered I still had a partition with Snow Leopard. Booted from that, replaced the PRIVATE folder on the card with the one from the update (without any problem at all), stuck the card in the AF100 and did the update. Simple!

Now maybe I'm off-base here, but considering that Panasonic never bothered to test whether their updates worked on a Mac originally, it wouldn't be a big stretch to assume they've never bothered testing in Lion. So I'm really curious whether anyone else has had experience upgrading using Lion. I was using OS 10.7.3

I could never make it work on my mac using Lion - found it quicker in the end to locate a pc and do it from there to be honest.

That's apparently what Panasonic expects the customer to do if they're unfortunate enough to be running an OS which has been available now for almost a year (7/2011). It's pretty obvious these guys do their development work on PCs, but how hard would it be to get access to a Mac (running the latest) just to make sure the software will work for all their customers? Pretty much standard procedure for most reputable, professional companies, I believe.

Really don't appreciate having given them my money for the cameras and then having to waste my valuable time fooling around with firmware updates that won't work simply because they appear to be too lazy to test on the current Mac OS. It was unacceptable when they screwed up originally, and this is just adding insult to injury.

I'll be quick to apologize if it turns out there isn't, in fact, a verifiable problem when using Lion. Maybe the two of us just experienced an anomaly, but I kind of doubt it.
