Firmware update is now 4.06

if i never updatedthe firmware, can i jump straight to this one? or do i need to track down the others?

It's not an incremental update, it completely replaces what is in the camera, so you can go directly to this (or any other) version.

This is like a combination upgrade.

Go with it, and it replaces what you've had as THoff/Santa Monica indicates.

I've just had a customer call me and while downloading the update his macbook pro froze and will not allow him to access the HD.
I am searching the net for him (as he can't) to see if anyone else has had this issue updating to an intel mac. Understandably he's not a happy camper right now!
Anyone else have an issue updating?!
Thanks,

Brian

Do you mean simply downloading the 17 MB zip file?

I've not.

It's a little hard to believe a download zip file which contains no application can cause a HD failure.

My guess is that the HDD just failed.

Apparently the problem was downloading the HVX-202 update. After much fiddling (and many re-boots) he was able to get the computer working and download the proper HVX-200 version.
Thought we'd pass it on.
All is good!

Brian

That still doesn't make any sense to me.

As far as the Mac is concerned, it's just a data file -- none of the code runs on the Mac, and it cannot affect its operation. I think your customer is looking at a completely unrelated problem with his Mac, I would start scanning for bad sectors and back up the drive just in case.

I agree with THoff.

This a data file and contains no executable code for a Macintosh.

My guess is that he should run that HDD through DiskWarrior and the Apple Hardware diagnostics, or at least the disk utility and test it for errors.

Never had a data download do anything to a Mac HDD
