Firmware/Software Update for HPX300 Available

Thanks for your work, really interesting! It seems to me, that the price for less noise is a little bit more "soft" image.. You lost a little bit of sharpness i think. Or am i wrong? Thats my impression... What do you guys think?
Call me a pedant, but in the end i think thats the better choice, a good compromise.
Great Update!

Anyone else experience the illegible script-style fonts throughout the PASS site? They appear in instruction pages and especially on any buttons related to software updates.

It is only Panasonic sites that exhibit this and there is no prompt for language packs. It is English, but completely unreadable.

[EDIT] Figured this out. Panasonic's site seems to override the IE encoding. Right-click anywhere on the page and select Encoding > Auto and it reverts to your standard fonts again.

The overall sharpness I feel doesn't suffer (the hard vertical lines in the folding door appear just as sharp after the upgrade) but the subtler detail (like the fake wood grain on that door) does look smoothed over.

I'm thinking it may be due to a Detail Coring or other scene file setting that had been turned up previously to compensate for the noise and now isn't necessary; it's looking for noise that isn't there and taking it out of the finer detail. I haven't had a chance to test that yet, though.

Question on the FBC setting...maybe I just need my morning coffee...

I set FBC to User 2. When I press the user button (I am in 1080 60i) it just says FBC off. If I press it again it again says "FBC Off". When is it "on"? Thanks!

Do you think they can pull off a global shutter with a firmware update? That would make this the ultimate sub $20,000 camera!

I really don't see that is really possible on a CMOS at this price range. But show me any other sub-10K camera that records in 4:2:2 10 bit I frame only. Add to that some of the best ergonomics out there in this price range and frankly you can't get near this camera for much under $27,000. But that would buy you an HPX2000. Remember it isn't what you make it is what you keep than counts

Best,

Jan

Sorry to ask, but what kept the designers from putting a CCD in this camera? I know CMOS has better low light performance and no vertical smear, but I haven't seen many CMOS cameras out there.

Can any one try this out : May be see the real world shoot with this ::: Hope it gives results as claimed by Panasonic :)

can anyone post atheir test resutls of in belowmentioned test conditions

- HPX300 shooting on shoulder (not on tripod) apparently with the slight shake involved & on moving subjects like human being posing for photographer ... unlike the stationary subjects like tables/statues etc as shown in varied examples
- zooming in or out while shooting with FBC ON
- multiple flash fires to actually see how would this CMOS camera stand against all such situations for a event shooter

what i saw on samples make me feel that when the FBC in ON it will work best for stationary objects & when camera is tripod mounted.

Many thx in advance.

The only time the FBC is activated is when there is a flash, so normal video with panning and zooming wouldn't be affected. If you have something that is moving at a fast speed, and there are flashes at the same time you may see a judder in the motion due to how the system works. But this is only when there are flashes, if no flash it would record normally.

Thanks,

Jan

Well if we shoot people dancing at a party & have some photog flash running around...will the image recorded on HPX300 with FBC ON be JUDDERY :(

i wonder how horrid results to expect when we shoot live shows/artist events where we have a gamut of phogogs clicking to their delight .... in turn allowing us to have the worst possible images with FBC ON on our hpx300 & camera pointing to gyrating performers .....

Actually no one in my area has dared to risk their money on a yet to be proven CMOS tech camcorder :) So i am solely banking on others ... everyone has invested into PDW700 or HPX3000 types of camcorder ... By far the best one available ... All they say that they wont consider a 1/3" body for their clients as none seemed to be interested in hpx300 as of now.

Ok, back to topic if any one test the horrors yet to show their face on HPX300 results.

YES IT CAN!!!!! It's a nice camera takes awesome pictures, If you sling the camera around like a wild man you can see the jello effect. I think alot of people wish they would have bought this camera instead of the plastic Sony cams and they like to go onto message boards and bash the 300 to make themselves feel better for throwing 8 thousand dollars on a piece of plastic that takes fake batteries.
