firmware hack loaded byt GH1 says I have version 0.0

So I just loaded the GH1 firmware hack GH1__133.BIN and my GH1 says my firmware version is now "0.0".

Is this normal? I copied the recommended settings word for word and number for number.

Mine says 1.3 but the one that I put was my GH1__140. Is that normal?
This was my first and I didn't want to start at __133 so I jumped to __140 but I did make a note on the increment #.

this is normal

this is the 'version change' hack that resets the version to 0.0 because of an issue with the cam always wanting to see a version upgrade for firmware changes

this enables you to restore to an identical-to-factory scenario

this is normal if you selected the "verson patch" option, and you did obviously.

this option makes a easy way for all testers to patch the camera and troblue free from mixed-up with version increment number. subject to selected "verson patch" everytime.

OR give a chance for restoring original firmware to the camera. once you load the orginal firmware, you may click the "version patch" and add version increment to upgrade and get 0.0 back.

all above mentioned in ptools.

so it is actually also possible to "update" your gh13 back to the gh1 with the original firmware number?

I've read a number of postings on this, but I'm still confused. Please correct me if I'm wrong:

Ozpeter, for one, suggests using 2 SD cards, one with the hack and one with the original untouched Panasonic firmware 1.32.

When updating with the "hack" card with the "Version Compare Patch" installed the GH1's "Version Display" screen reports a BODY FIRMWARE version of 0.0

But by then "updating" with the original Panasonic firmware card, the GH1's "Version Display" screen reports a BODY FIRMWARE version of 1.32 just like when it left the factory. (EDIT - Version 1.2 is the current factory version, I believe. Version 1.32 is only available by download.)

Someone also reported that the KIT LENS FIRMWARE version changed from 1.1 to 1.2, which would also be a dead giveaway because there is no newer version than 1.1. Has anyone else noticed this?

Sorry for belaboring this, but I still have 23 months to go on my guarantee, and I wouldn't want to give Panasonic an excuse to refuse to honor it.

Thanks for a definitive answer.

Checking the version compare patch sets your firmware version to 0.0 on purpose. Why you ask? Because when you go to load a different firmware (hacked, original, whatever) the camera wants to see a higher version number or it wont install. This made us use the 'version increment' option in Ptool which adds .01 x the number you put in the field to each version. So the first time you put hacked firmware on the camera, it had to go from 1.30 to 1.31. Then, if you did it again, you had to go up to 1.32, and so on.

Now, because with the version compare hack, the camera thinks its current firmware is 0.0, any number of firmware you put into next time is considered to be higher.

Don't worry, as soon as you put on an original firmware, or if you put on a firmware without the "version compare" option checked, your firmware will be at the appropriate number (original will put it back to 1.30).

So to recap
1. Installing hacked firmware with 'version compare' selected in Ptool, it sets firmware to 0.0. This means any firmware version can be installed later.
2. Installing latest official Panasonic firmware sets the version to 1.30 (I believe) because it hasn't been hacked (obviously) to tell the camera it is firmware version 0.0.
3. If Installing hacked firmware again after installing official firmware or if for some reason you installed hacked firmware with 'version compare' off, you must use the version increment (in this case 1 to make it 1.31) to make it higher than the previous firmware so the camera will accept and install it.
-If you do not choose version compare, it will be 1.31 on the camera, and next time you'll need to enter 2 into the version increment field to make it 1.32 (and therefore higher)
-If you do choose version compare in pTool (which you should, for easier upgrading next time), the version will be 0.0 again, and the next firmware can be any old version number you want.

The two card trick would normally be used with Ptool settings all disabled - except for "version compare" - on one card, and the other card with the settings under test.

Or, one card has the last tested settings, and the other card has the settings you are hoping will be better.

Or, one card has settings that are pretty extreme and might not work, and the other card has settings that are very extreme and almost certainly won't work, but you live in hope.

etc.

Only go back to the proper firmware if you've done testing and decided against it.

Thanks very much, gentlemen, for your concise and helpful answers.

Any observations on the KIT LENS FIRMWARE version changing from 1.1 to 1.2? As I said, that would be a dead giveaway to Panasonic Service that the hack had been installed.

(For some reason, when I try to search "GH1 lens firmware" I get an error message.

Thanks for any insights.

Thanks, DaLiV. Guess I missed that one.
There IS an official lens firmware version 1.2 and it's called ES100312.bin
