GH5 Firmware Beware!!!

I did the update, as I've done many times in the past since GH4 days... no problem. BUT now a few seconds after I turn on the camera I hear a click then get a message saying "Please turn camera off and then on again"... So, I turn it off and on, but still get the message after a moment. I tried with different SD card, no card, different battery, moving mode dial before the message comes up and NOTHING WORKS... I always get the turn off message.

HELP. I guess I'll try re-installing 2.4? or?

Updated my Gh5 and Gh5S went as expected . Confirmed update version. Just checked again and both are fine. Did you check version number on wrench page?

I did the update to 2.4 and it went fine, but I must tell you that 2.3 was MUCH better in auto focus than this is. I've been playing with it all morning and it's hunting just like 2.2 did. It stammers before it locks on and it's even affecting AFS in stills. I'm not happy and I thought 2.3 really helped to make AFC in video almost acceptable - 2.4 is not. Let me know what you think.

I ,mght try doing it again. It is very clear do not touch any buttons once it starts. Mine went through the system and turned itself off. Then came back up into normal mode.

So, I had to pull the battery to get it to turn off. Been years since I've had to do that. BUT I was able to do a clean re-install and so far it's been ok. Fingers Crossed.

Glad you got it done. You may have just brushed against a button while handling camera. Easy to touch the display button. I put mine down on a table before I started so easier to just touch what is needed. I had seen that warning from someone else I think a year ago.

It stammers before it locks on and it's even affecting AFS in stills.

Watched a couple of tests on YouTube, & wasn’t impressed by Continuous AF on the GH5, but felt the same with the previous Firmware.

What concerns me most about your statement is AFS performance when shooting stills. What are you seeing exactly? Hunting, lack of lock-on, etc? And what lenses have you tested?

Also interested in other users observations.

Thanks!

Since I posted I've been testing only with the Leica-panny 12-60 (only lens I have with me, but the lens I feel works the best with AFC with the GH5) The issue I had with AFS was it was hunting after I locked on the a static subject but since have only managed it make it do it a few times. What bothers me the most was in video where once it locked on in 2.3 it never micro-adjusted one more time like I'm experiencing in 2.4. I also feel like it is quite a bit slower.
I will say that no one else seems to be having these issues so who knows - I will continue to test. One question - what does it take to go back to 2.3 - is it even possible?

The mystery continues. So now after successfully reinstalling firmware 2.4 the "power off and back on" message is gone... BUT now there is some really weird issue with the lens and dual IS. This is with Panny 12-35 old version. you can hear, feel and see the BUMP in the footage - but only when panning down fast. If I tun off OIS on the lens all is OK.
Ideas?

Did you check to see if there is a firmware update for that lens ? I think the lenses were on that same Panasonic page.
