AC160 Firmware 3.07 June 2014 - What is CHRecoding Mode?

The Install procedure requires that you first plug in the AC power - you cannot install using battery.

The final step is tricky
a) remove the SD card (while it shows a steady yellow light),
b) switch off the power (which I took to mean unplugging the power cord),
c) then disconnecting the DC power box that you plugged in,
d) then connecting again or plugging in a battery.

Nowhere in this procedure does it say to switch off the camera which is the usual procedure before you remove an SD card.

It appears DVR devices have a CH mode.

I wonder if CH mode lets you increase the recording speed beyond 21 Mbps (PH mode).

Hmm.. the camera shows 2 hours recording time on PS (1080/60p) compared to 20 hours on CH (1080/60i)

I see that the frame width for CH is 1440.

More input possibly related to CH.

"Some cameras and broadcast systems that use 1080 vertical lines per frame do not actually use the full 1920 pixels of a nominal 1080i picture for image capture and encoding. Common subsampling ratios include 3/4 (resulting in 1440x1080i frame resolution) and 1/2 (resulting in 960x1080i frame resolution). Where used, the lower horizontal resolution is scaled to capture and/or display a full-sized picture.

CH is a very low bandwidth 1080i recording mode. It uses about 3 megabits per second, at a prefiltered 1440x1080i resolution. It is about half the bandwidth of the existing HE mode. I don't know exactly what their plans were for this new mode, but I suspect it has something to do with wireless connectivity -- such as the EyeFi update. Lots of recording time at low bandwidth should mean much simpler wireless transmission.
