Canon has released the new firmware for the C500. It adds some new recording modes that are useful.

LongGOP XFAVC in 2K at 10 bit and 50mbps and 4k at 10bits and 260mbps. We also now have SD proxy recording in XFAVC.

We still can't use both the SDI and HDMI monitor outputs, though.

And I'm told, we will never have that feature. I just use a splitter now. It's not the end of days, but I agree it's daft.

I would have liked to have seen some better frame rates added, even if it were just in S35 mode, but didn't expect those either.

They say it's an "incremental" update, which hopefully means bigger "feature adding" updates are on the way.

I'm no engineer but I feel like if the ONLY difference is the sensor, and it's possible at s35... it should be possible at s35 crop right? Does the larger sensor mean it still draws that power/data but ignores it or something?

I would sure think it would at least be possible on a crop. There are a lot of cameras that have extended capabilities due to crops so whatever it does it must free up resources by doing so. But hey, like you, I’m no engineer...I haven’t even played one on TV :)

I think it just boils down to if they want to...do they feel any/enough pressure from owners or the competition (like FX9) to add it?
