Firewire repeaters

If you want to use firewire to connect the hvx to a laptop it would be great to have a very long length of cable. I have been trying to find a repeater solution to help with this but have not been able to. The camera port is 4 pin unpowered and all the repeaters seem to be 6 pin powered - they have to be powered to make the repeater work i beleive.

So any ideas how to entend a wire with repeaters to give maximum range with the hvx?

get a 4 to six pin at either end of the repeater maybe?

That probably wont work because the power line is in the 6 pin and needs to hit the repeater to give it power to do its job

Check out Markertek. It seems that I got my 50' from them to hook up the DVX to DVRack.

Here's an example of a 4 to 4. I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but it might be a place to start.

thanks for the link - but technically these firewires are not in spec and therefore may have higher error rates with a 100 Mbs stream - ideally we would need repeaters - any ideas?

With the right kind of cable, you can go up to 60 feet without a repeater. I used a Sony Anycast with 4 such cables without a glitch. Above that, you can try repeaters from Datavideo (http://www.datavideo.us/products/vp_314_main_page.htm)
