Firewire capture to external hard drive

I know I can't capture native footage via firewire to an external capture device such as an external hard drive (Focus Enhancements FS5, Citidisk hard drive, etc) but can I capture 1080i/24p via firewire to an external hard disk drive via 6 pin firewire?

The 6 pin isn't the issue. It's only the native formats that cannot pass (Live) thru the firewire. So, I believe the answer is yes.

you cant capture live ANYTHING to an external drive PERIOD.
all you can do with a simple connected hard drive, is transfer what youve shot on your p2 cards.

if you want to shoot live video to a drive. you need some kind of smart device like a laptop (with appropriate software) or an fs100 (fs5 isnt compatible with the hpx/hvx).

To record to an external drive other than a FS-100 kipro, etc, you need a computer and software to facilitate this, ie HD monitor, Scopebox, OnLocation, etc.
