Firestore Variable Frame Rate Issue

Hey,
I desperately need help. Just shot something this morning and did a few clips at 48 frames per second. Now, I've done VFR on the Firestore tons and it's always worked great. However, I haven't really ever done 48 fps, only 60. The problem I'm having is when I play the clip off the firestore it's like in double time, all sped up. Then when I import it into FCP I notice that the Vid Rate is at 29.97 and it won't even let me use the Frame Rate converter.

This is so jacked up, cause I KNOW I did it right. I even just tested using 48fps on my HVX again, and it worked fine.

Has anybody heard of this problem and know what it's all about?

I made sure my settings were as follows:
HVX: 720p24p, Film Cam, 48 Frames, Shutter 1/120
Firestore: DVCPro HD, P2 PN

hmm-
some wacky things have been happening in the update. I pains me to say so. I had a similar issue. Have also had issues with pulldown removal in other circumstances - like getting back the removed frames on a freeze frame command. Have you performed the QT 7.2 update. It is intended to fix about a dozen known issues in FCP Studio 2, though mostly with motion - a few in FCP.
I would warn that while QT 7.2 fixed some of my problems - I've seen that it has cause issues for others. Mike at HD For Indies reported an entire crash today - though it is unlikely that it is soley due to the update.

The 7.2 update seems to bite Intel machines, and I am advising folks to avoid it until Apple has the chance to fix the crashing problems it causes.

Your problem is the P2N setting on your Firestore. To to VFR, your Firestore needs to be set at P2. Do not remove the pulldown upon ingest into FCP. Then, apply the FRC.

There will be am updated version soon of the FS-100 firmware which will allow VFR in native Firestore modes. But right now you need to use P2 or Quicktime in the normal mode.

I just bought the v3.0 update. Maybe I should have waited!?

Ned, if you have any pull, please tell Focus to offer the update via a download. I couldn't believe I had to wait for a CD to be shipped to me.

Really? Everything I've read says I need to set the Firestore on P2PN to do VFR. That's interesting. And you're not supposed to check Remove duplicate frames? That changes a lot.

In the version 3.0 firmware, P2PN has no effect on variable frame rate recording. The FS-100 version 3.0 doesn't do "pN" simulation on variable frame rates, only on 24 and 30.

A future firmware update may address that, but as of version 3.0 variable frame rates are recorded identically in P2 mode and in P2PN mode.
