I'm shooting with the hvx200, and using the firestore, can i dump my hd footage from firestore to drive than to mac, or do i have to go from firestore to mac?
I don't believe any of the Firestore units have the ability to manage offloading themselves to another Firewire drive.
You'll have to use a computer to manage the data transfer, although you don't have to copy to the internal hard drive first, you can go directly from the Firestore to the external Firewire drive.
