FireStore FS-C Availability?

Hi all,

For a few reasons, I need to go tapeless for an upcoming shoot. I'd hoped the XF100 would be in my hands by now, but it hasn't arrived in stores (and, with today's tragic events in Japan, who knows how long it will be).

So I'm preparing for the fact that I'll need to stick with my XH-A1. From what I've been able to figure out from reading the threads here and at other boards, the FireStore FS-C is my best option. But, it seems they've been discontinued? Is that correct? Or is there an updated version with a different name (that works well with Canons)? Or anything else I'm missing?

Thanks!

Cool. Thanks, Jim!

So, has anything superceded the FS-C for Canon? Any new models in the last year or so that folks can confirm works well with xha1?

The company that makes the Firestore, Focus Enhancement, actually declared bankruptcy in 2008. I doubt that any more FireWire based capture device is forthcoming. FW is a terrible way to capture anyway because the A1 has a flimsy 4 pin port that doesn't lock and breaks very easily. In the field it's just not a reliable way to work.

Huy vu, is correct. Although the XHA1-S model has the upgraded 6 pin, which is way more durable. I have an FSC. But Im pretty sure the newest models are fine with multi platform use.

Thanks guys. So, if FW is not reliable on the XHA1, what are the better options for going tapeless? (I get the feeling the answer is, "buy a new camera"...).

That's pretty much what I'd say. I don't know that any portable recorder capable of using the component output exists.
