FireStore FS-100 Version 4.0 released

really luis it doesn't record audio at all. With version 3 at one point I recoded stuff with PN mode (can't remember the exact settings) but when played back from the FS-100 it always said "Audio Mute" then when I brought it to my NLE it had sound. (what a relief)
I thought it would be the same with the VFR. it would play back in mute from the FS-100 but when brought to your NLE it would have sound. (this was on P2 mode not sure about Quicktime)
 
Just to clarify:
It will record audio in PN modes as long as the VFR mode is off (just like before)
What I was saying was that if you are using VFR mode then it will not record any audio (but still creates 4 tracks of empty audio with the file).
 
yeah I undestood. I was hoping that it would record audio though. Not that we will use it, but sometimes you never know, you might want that effect. I guess I have to dump one of my hard drives to my computer so that I can format and upgrade my FS-100. :)

Yeah, I completely agree.
Would be nice for it to still record audio - but honestly I didn't expect it, not in VFR mode.
The HVX doesn't record audio when shooting variable frame rates in PN mode...so not a huge shocker. What bothers me is that if you are in VFR mode and decide to go back to shooting at your default framerate (say, 24fps) - it still will not record audio.
You have to go back into the FS100 and switch the VFR mode off.

So now it's making a change on two different menus (the HVX & the FS100).
And personally - If my choices are between adding a step in production or adding a step in post - I'd rather do it in post when there is less of a chance of me screwing something up. So, unless I'm just shooting a ton of slomo broll or something - I'll probably keep using the FRC for now.
 
It would be nice to be able to program a shortcut to VFR on FA,FB or FC-
It's a long journey to navigate to setup VFR...

I had suggested macros and shortcuts for FS-100 menus or at the very least some easy set ups. Wrote this as part of beta test many months ago. Probably not as easy as we think it sounds.

Luis, you can always shut down the fs-100 after you are done with VFR. this should make sure you are back in business. :)
 
newb question: Can you record true uncompressed HD to the FS-100 just like you can to the p2 cards (but without them) while maintaining the same quality?
 
It's not uncompressed, it's DVCProHD, just like on the P2 cards. And yes, it's the same quality.
 
anyone has succeed the upgrade with the steps focus provide?
Im talking about the factory reset stuff..?
Ned told me that probably I have the beta 3 version.
why dont they just send the correct 3 version for the fs100?
i dont get it
 
If you have the beta version will it say so on the CD? If they sent you the password, can you figure you have the non-beta version?
 
Whatever version 3 I had, it couldn't be updated. I was then sent version 2 and 3 to start from scratch, and then the V4.0 updated successfuly.

well, I've just tried the factory reset and it works.
I suppose that my version 3 wasnt a beta...
here are the steps.



Try performing the steps below

1) FACTORY RESET
a. With the Firestore powered OFF.
b. REMOVE the “battery” and connect the “AC Adaptor”.
c. Press and HOLD down the "ON” and “OFF” buttons for 15' seconds, then release just the “ON” Button.
d. Count to five (5) then release the “OFF” button.
e. The Firestore should be powering back up to the home screen

2) FIRESTORE
1) Now mount the firstore, then open it.
2) Go back to the update window.
3) Drag and Drop ONLY the " .bin " file over to any OPEN area at the bottom of the mounted firestore window.
4) Wait for the transfer to complete.
5) Now CLOSE the firestore window.(wait about 5' seconds)
6) Dismount the firestore.
7) Scroll RIGHT to the UTILITIES menu.
8) Scroll DOWN to UPGRADE.
9) Press the RIGHT arrow key. (A message asking you to upgrade will appear.)
10) Press YES.
11) Wait for the UPDATE or UPGRADE to complete.
12) Once the UPDATE or UPGRADE has completed, you will be asked to power the unit OFF (Reboot).
13) Power the unit OFF and back ON.
14) Scroll to the SETUP menu.
15) The upgrade or update should have the NEW UPDATE OR UPGRADE showing.
16) DONE!
 
I used those settings and not work, i talk with support and they send me a driver with a litlle diference. The driver on the ftp is from 08/01/07 and they send me a driver with a date 08/22/07 and this version work whithout a problem.
 
Now I'm curious if it's possible or better to shoot time-lapse using quicktimePN/VFR 24
I've previously used quicktime. Will it need the Make Ref MOV? Still looking into this, as it was added to V4.0
I guess I'll shoot a test-

One of my units (newer) upgraded just fine. The other (confirmed running non-beta v3) wont upgrade no matter what. I have emailed everyone at FE but not received an answer.
