FireStore FS-100 Version 4.0 released

Sweet deal! Now if only B&H would ship my damned FS-100s...

Wow, I wasnt expecting the VFR capability. I was actually thinking about getting a 16gb P2 card for my VFR shots (I only have one 4gb, so my VFR time is extremely limited). But now I can just upgrade my fs100.

I dont see anything about a fix for the audio problem (v3.0)with avid though. Any news if this version will fix the issue?

thank god.
While it didn't really STOP me from doing anything, it definitely slows me down to have to use that FRC.
Whew...no more.

EDITED TO ADD:

I wonder if it will deal alright with 'hacked' framerates?
I don't see why it shouldn't...if the P2 cards deal with it.

Any idea on the workflow and/or setup for Variable framerate with version 4? Also, what can you all achieve with it?

Cheers

Planetearth,

When you download the update, you can download the updated manual also. I'm just reading it right now. But my assumption is that:

v3
gave us PN (for native recording.) so if you hvx was set to 720/24p at 24fps and your FS-100 set to record P2n then it would drop the 36frames not being used and you saved space. Hence the added recorded time.

v4
gives us the ability to set the HVX at 720/24p at 60fps. and your FS-100 set to P2n / VFR would lay out every single frame of the 60fps on a 24fps play back timeline. So if you recorder 10 seconds and played it back from the FS-100 then you would see 25 seconds playback. (the P2 cards have had this ability all along, but the FS-100 is just now able to do this) So if you are overcranking, or undercrancking, now you can review the footage right of the FS-100. before v4 you had to go to your NLE and make sure there that you got the effect you wanted. (one thing that you will not be able to check while doing this is audio. it will be muted. but most likely you will do ADR or VO on that)

I haven't tried this, so anyone can correct me if I'm wrong here. I'll be updating my fs-100 soon.

Has anyone received user name/password from Focus Enhancements yet? Won't let me download without it.

Ned - it shoudl be in the email you received from Focus.
I almost missed it bc it looks like a press release.
But near the bottom it will have your unique Username and Password.

Hmmm... never got anything from Focus. I had the beta versions all along so I suspect Matt might just send it to me, but nothing yet. Interesting....

Hi Luis,
Were you able to do the upgrade? I connected to the ftp, dragged the zip files to my desktop, opened them, took the fs100.bin file, copied it to the FS, but got an error message-"wrong product ID"
Like I said, I followed their instructions-I do have v 3.0...

Is there anything else I should have done? I formatted, turned on, off...

Best,

not yet john. maybe I'll do it in a few minutes. and Yes I would format the drive. you want to copy the contents out of the drive. The last thing you want is to loose footage because you tried updating the bios.

I tried to install the new 4.0 software to my 3.0 FS-100 yesterday and was unsuccessful...anybody else have the same issue? I have been in contact with customer support at Focus and they have been very helpful, but my problem has not been resolved. I will speak to customer support again to day and hopefully they will get me up to 4.0.
