firestore for dvx

I have one -- it works fine for me. I have only had a couple of issues lately, so I would recommend that if you get one, you still use a tape, for backup purposes.

It does save a bit of time not having to capture the tape.

which model are u getting ? which camera mount ?
 
I have the FS-4. I use the field kit that is available -- it allows you to use a hot shoe mount to hold it. It also doubles as a stand when I have it on my desk.

The focus enhancements site doesn't have a picture as far as I can tell. But you can see it on the Videoguys site (that is where I bought it)

I guess technically, you don't "capture" again with the firestore. : ) I don't use FCP, yet, but will be getting it soon. You might want to do some searches on FCP and Firestore, as I have seen some special settings and thing you need to do with the firestore in order for FCP to import the footage in correctly.
 
I use my FS-4 exclusively. Its soooo much nicer never having to buy tapes, no dropout issues, drag and drop files makes transfer of files a breeze. I have the FS-4 HD which works great with my Canon xh-a1 as well as my dvx100b. I took out the 40gig hard drive and put in a 120 gig. Many hours of space on it. And yes, get the field model the extra battery is a gem.
 
I've been trying this lately (DVX to FS-4) for long recordings of live musicians where I start the firestore and leave it recording for an hour - the file it records to splits every 1.85 GB and starts a new file. I've been searching everywhere to see if this is intended or something not exactly right. There's no dropped frames just a new file every 1.85GB. I can't find anything on this. Anyone know? Part of me thinks it makes sense, and part of me thinks it's not right.
