Firestore Bulllet Proof?

I really like the idea of skipping P2 cards and using a Firestore drive.
Does anyone have long term experience with the firestore.
Is it bullet proof?
Will the firewire connector tend to get disconnected from the camera, and if
so will their be some sort of warning sound?

The camera hasn't been releases yet, Panasonic hasn't even released footage taken from the camera-its a bit premature to speculate how Firestore will work with the HVX, let alone know any facts of its performance. The HVXs HD performance is a whole 'nother animal that the DV world we have been living in.

I'm pretty sure the steep price for such low recording time of the proposed 8 gig P2s with draw a lot of third party alternatives; and I bet the firestore line will lead the way with a new product specially for the HVXs high volume data output.

I don't really care for my Firestore all that much. It seems to get hot a bit too quick and heat brings noise.

That said, as for ease of use it's amazing. Just stream to the drive once you've got it set up correctly, shoot then plug into your computer and drop the files where you want. Pretty cool.

"Bullet Proof"...I don't think it's that rugged, but it's a step in the right direction.

Best,

Jason

From what i have heard, the existing firestore devices have a very very low failure rate, they are designed to be as secure as possible, in fact that's the priority of the company. Some third party companies have made DV devices however that have not been reliable, so i expect that to continue, I would stick with the firestore.

That said, I dont see the P2 as being a problem in my dramatic productions, 8 minutes in a dramatic production can be an hours worth of footage easy, and making the camera assistant dump the card every hour shouldn't be a problem, in fact i see it as a benefit, because it gives you an opportunity to quickly double check your footage.

I am really interested in a hard drive for the HVX at first, my reasoning is this:
When I first bought my first digital still camera, I was stoked to get a great deal on a 128meg memory stick for it. Just today I saw a deal on a gig memory stick pro duo for $5 more than what my 128 cost two years ago. Now I don't feel like a total schmuck, my 128 does store plenty, but seeing how far the price/performance level moved, I feel a bit schmuckish.
I am really into P2, but right now ROI isn't enough for me to invest into, maybe when there are 16 gig cards, and most deffentally when there are 32 gig cards for $2k will I be buying. Seeing the graph of the P2 roadmap, and how soon those 128 gig P2's will be here, makes my patient.

128 gig P2, does anybody realize that's 8 1/2 hours straight of DV recording? Maybe I can't wait. I'm going to get one and just leave it recording all day long.
