Firestore->Avid Xpress importing

Hi there folks,

I'm not having any luck getting the Avid to import the files using the "new" "File>Import P2 Card" option in Xpress 2.7 on a MacBook Pro.

I know that the format is correct, because after I did the 'P2 Organize' on the Firestore, I can use the older method of importing using the Media Tool, and that works, but I was counting on an easier workflow than that. I was under the impression that there was a smoother method of importing from Xpress with File>Import P2... Is there a thread that I've missed?

Any ideas? The setup that I've been using is HVX-200 shooting at 720/24P -> Firestore FS-100 (firmware 3.x) using P2 PN mode. That should yield a 720/24PN format file which then should be 'easy' to import.

Is my workflow wrongly thought out? Am I missing an obvious step?

Thanks for any and all replies! I will report back.

Strangely enough, if I move the CONTENTS and the Last Clip.txt files to a folder off the the fs-100, Xpress sees the files and lets me import them. But not off the fs-100. I'm guessing no one else has had this problem?

yeah, I edit on AVID and have shot with the Firestore100. Take the files from the Contents folder (Audio and Video only) and drag the files directly to your computer's hard drive. Make sure you set up your hard drive files first (one folder Avidmediafiles, subfolder MXF files, subfoler one - drag all the audio and video to folder labeled 1 etc. If you simply use the media tool it will import the files. But every time you open up AVID it takes a while to load the drives. This make sense? I would also partition your drives. Making each one 100 gigs. every time i load footage i put it directly on one of the partitioned drives.

Thanks for that.

I usually copy the entire Contents Folder - Don't forget to include the LAST CLIP.txt!

I just returned the fs-100, as there were more than two big problems in using it with the Avid (the workflow that I wanted wasn't working.)

Those problems? Off-speed shooting & the current firmware of 3.0.x for the fs-100 causes a 50% error rate on any of the P2N recording format. No being able to read off the fs-100 directly from the Avid... <sigh>

Hmmmmmm,

Yeah i rented a Firestore from one company in NYC and the files wouldn't play etc. The error message said the audio and video size weren't the same amount. It took a great deal of work to get it to work (separated the files and converted the Audio MXF files into windows files etc.)

But anyhow, when i rented from a different rental house. I used two for an entire feature and had no problems at all. The problem i found out later, is that Firestore needs to be updated. If it is NOT, it can cause major problems in editing.

What specific problems are you having. Can you play all of your clips? Or is it not even recognizing all of your media?

The Firestore fs-100 had that problem, the firmware was updated to fix it, BUT, the problem has returned with the v3.0 firmware update (when using the P2 NATIVE format, the new feature of v3.0) - this problem has been acknowledged by Focus Enhancements and they are "working on a fix".

I've returned the fs-100 and put an order in for two 16Gig P2 cards.
