Firestore and 24f : It does record 24f, right?

I'm making sure that Firestores have the ability to record 24f .m2ts. Anyone can confirm this for sure? If so, that might be my way to go instead of the HV10 as a playback deck.

hey, I need help on this one.... What is Firestore and HV10? Are they two different storage devices or somthing?

Jay

HV10 - Canon HDV Handy Cam that plays back 24f. you could use this as a deck instead of your A1. Save the heads, and have a second camera that looks REALLY damned good. Even if it's not 24f and all that.

Firestore - Tapeless Workflow Device. Captures .m2t's to a hard-drive that you offload to your PC via Firewire. Also a great alternative to putting weight on your A1's deck.

kholi, this is the firestore you're looking for:

coffee, firestore is a direct to disk recording solution. the hv10 is canon's $1300 consumer cam that can play back canon's 24f. many xl-h1 and xh users have adopted the hv10 as a capture/playback deck for this reason. i have to say, the little hv10 manages to deliver a pretty nice picture.

No, Just that most camera operators would rather not burn their $3k camcorder tape heads on footage capture. Buy someting cheaper, and when it dies, you still have your field equipment to make money with.

Exactly. You can use the camcorder to capture just like the DVX. I'd just prefer not to, myself.

Or at least not all the time. I want a Firestore or HV10. It's worth the extra expense, to me.

Dope. I thought it was the Fs-100. Thanks for the link, dude!!

What I'm not seeing is if it captures 24f .m2t. I think it's saying that it captures Quicktime files instead. I'd like my .m2t's, please.

no, no I understand that concept but what I'm saying is I already have an old camcorder that I'm using to capture footage with and I'm curious to know if it will be sufficient enough to capture HD footage from the A1.

Anyone?

Yeah of course. It's fine to capture from. It's just some people dont' want to wear the head recording and capturing.

Well the old camcorder (some JVC model) really is only being kept around as a capture tool. I wouldn't use the Canon or DVX for this purpose at all.

just to be clear, you can capture 24f SD footage from any cam/deck. to capture 24f HDV, you need a cam/deck capable of playing it back. the only tape option currently, besides the three pro cams, is the hv10.

BINGO! That's what I was looking for... Thanks Henry. : )

Kholi,

I'm currently testing a Firestore C and you can select m2t or QT HDV. And yes, it captures 24F m2ts.

304 minutes of HDV capture is possible with the one I have. :)

what do you think about DVrack HD 2.0 I just experimented with it today with the demo and it grabed HDV 24f footage just fine into my external 7200rpm drive. I then went in to vegas and it imported it and ran on the time line. It does have a problem with playback and high setting but then again it could be my videocard on my laptop is 64mb but it is not using shared memory with my cpu.

DVRack looks great, but to me it's apples and oranges. Firestore is something you can run and gun with--DVRack is for more controlled shooting. If being tethered to a laptop is acceptable to you, then by all means go with DVRack. I'm sure there'll be times where you'd wish you had the convenience of a DTE unit though.

THanks for solidifying my choice. If I sell my HVX and go A1 you can bet your ass there's no way in hell I won't have a Firestore.

Tape just doesn't do it for me after a day of REALLY playing with the HVX200.
