FireStore-100 records "Over 60"? I lose the 24P?

When I shoot FilmCAM mode, and 720P24, due to the Firestore, it records at 60., ( or the so-called "over 60").
This means that once imported to FC Studio, the editing timeline is 59.97. I purchased the camera for the same reasons most people do. To get that 24 progressive frames and have a film like look.

1. Does this mean that editing in a 59.97 time base as dictated by the use of the FireStore, I am not taking advantage of the 24 progressive frames?

2. If I use the Variable Frame Rate, and shoot in 60FPS, then I am unable to get the smooth slo-mo feel? The camera maxes out at 60 FPS.

Using the Firestore, seems to eliminate all of the benefits of this great camera. I don't get the full effect of 24 progressive frames and I can't overcrank to get slo-mo.
IS THIS CORRECT?
 
Make sure you have selected 24pN to get native 24fps. Also many of the special features of the HVX such as interval recording and over/under-cranking are only available in certain modes. The manual needs to be read thoroughly and constantly referenced when starting out because many modes will not activate without first changing several other menu options. There is a steep learning curve on this camera to access its full power.
 
You can't use 24pN and a firestore together, that doesn't work. 24pN disables the firewire port.

No, you can still get what you want, you just have to take an extra step. Once upon a time you'd run the footage through Cinema Tools to strip out the pulldown; not sure what you do with modern versions of FCP. Best to ask your questions in our FCP forum.

But anyway, yeah, throw that firestore out the window and get a P2 card, you'll be infinitely happier.

I second that haha... Being that I invested in P2 cards myself, trust me I can't recommend them enough. Yeah they can get expensive but they're worth their weight in gold.

In terms of recording in 24 fps. Why not simply record in 60 fps and convert to 24? I know plenty here might disagree but since I come from a post production background, I find it's always useful to have the option no matter what. Deinterlace and send your footage to Motion and slow it down there. Then you'll truly be happy. Just a suggestion of course.

Like Barry said, don't set the camera to 24pN because that won't work with the Firestore. Set the camera to 24p. But in the DV Formats menu in the Firestore, select P2 PN or Quicktime PN. Then the Firestore will record only 24 fps. If you select Quicktime PN, then you can skip the log and transfer process in FCP because the Firestore creates Quicktime files. The only downside is it will create more than 1 file if the video is over 4GB (due to FAT32 limits) , but there are no lost frames.
 
Oh yeah, forgot about the P2 PN and Quicktime PN menu items... which, I guess, leads to the next suggestion -- make sure your Firestore's firmware is up to date so that it has those options...

Since I am midway into my project, does it make sense to do it now.

I will have 2 different timelines. One from the Fire-store footage at 59.97 and the new P2 at 29.97. Can they be combined into one final project?

I don't suppose I can mix them? I currently have 2 different timelines since I shot some run and shoot video with my Canon Vixia30 ( 29.97 fps timeline) and it seems the clips do not mix well. I get enlarged images, etc..
 
Get ahold of Cinema Tools and strip out the pulldown in the footage you've already shot. Don't edit your 24p footage on a 60p timeline. And your P2 footage won't be a 29.97 timeline anyway, it'll be 23.976.

Strip out the pulldown and it'll turn your 59.94 footage into 23.976. Then you can freely intermix it with the new P2 footage.

Geez you guys have it hard in the land of Never Twice the Same Colour!!! Here in Oz I set 25p on the HVX200 and PN on the Firestore and shoot 25-frame video. Works great
