Firestore 100 -160 GB does not get 160 GB

I just bought a Firestore 100 160GB from B&H and the one i received does not have 160 GB of memory. I called B&H and complained that it only gets 100 GB of memory, even though the B&H site, and Focus claims it does. A rep at B&H told me that Focus does not sell Firestore units with 160 GB - even though B&H website and my packing slip clearly states 160 GB. B&H has sent an RA for the item, but i want a 160 GB firestore as advertised. Has anyone purchased a 160 GB firestore yet? Has anyone had success yet?

Ugh, Yeah i am going to try an exchange it to B&H this week. I have a shoot on the weekend. Ugh. Lemme know how you make out when you get yours. Did you order B&H or Focus direct?

i talked to some people at focus. Sometimes it's so much easier to talk to the companies directly. B&H is GREAT! I've bought most of my stuff from them. But occasionally B&H has to special order products like these from them. I mean there isn't much demand for the 160 yet. It's still someone new. Knowing them, if you talk to the right person, they'll get it fixed.

Also, don't be afraid to try other people, like Specialized Communications (a DVX sponsor - they might give you a discount) or AbelCinetech!

I'll let ya know how i make out. It is awfully frustrating though, particularly since i paid for it and have a shoot in 3 days. uuuuuuuugh.

Okay, problem solved. The Firestore 100-160 is Partitioned into two halves one that is 100 gigs and the 2nd is 60 gigs. The problem is when you record on the device or turn it on (an empty firestore) - it will immediately read 112 minutes and count down all the way to 0 minutes, until the partitioned drive is filled. Then the 2nd/slave drive will kick in and start a new time (i assume 60 minutes or so and count down). There is no way from the manual that it mentions a partition and the manual displays that the read shows a 168 minutes when turning it initially on etc. Which is not correct.

It wasn't until i was able to speak to someone at Focus to be able to figure it out. When i hooked it up to a computer the first time (i didn't notice the partioned drives - probably because i have 15 partitioned drives already on my system already)

I will let you know how it handles after my weekend shoot. But if you order one and go hey this only gets 112 (or 111 minutes etc.) it is because the Firestore is partitioned and only displays the information regarding each individual partioned drive.

If there's two hard drives in there, (100GB and 60GB), why didn't they put in two 100GB drives and have an extra 40Gb of storage space?

It's a partitioning thing! Two partitions... one drive

It probably has to do with the way the software is encoded. However the FS-Forever (made by a fellow DVXuser) surpasses this aspect and doubles the harddrive space. He too has to partition it multiple times.
