Firestone or P2

Hello collegues,

I going to order my HVX200 next week, but I have a question.
I would like to buy the firestore but not the P2 cards, it seems me useless to have them both. What I would like to know is can I record the data on the firestone without any P2 card pluged in. Does somebody know this.

Thanks ,
Guy

I would avoid Firestone owing to all of the blow-out problems with the Ford Explorer and other tire scandals. On the other hand, I am a very satisfied Firestore user as well as a P2 user. There are times and circumstances for both and it depends upon your shooting needs and shooting styles. By the way, Bridgestone-Firestone sued Focus Enhancements over the use of the name Firestore, saying it sounded too close to their tires. They won and gradually Focus needs to change nomenclature. I personally have Michelins on both cars, including the one that usually transports my Firestore to a shoot.

Seriously... tell us more about your workflow and shooting needs and then perhaps we can give some pros and cons for each situation.

Hey,

Am sorry for the misspelling , I gues my age starts to infect my brain.
Serious now, I am now shooting on a Sony 170PD verry good cam buy the way. But I want to buy the HVX200 for all his advantages like perfect slow motion, flexibel framerates, HiDef 1080i and most of all his nice cinecolors and look. Because we make indie film most of my actors are amas and therefore scenes has to be done multipletimes over. So I shoot the data in one peace, no timecode but just with the "clapper". Afterwards I take in all the data in the PC. So it would be a waste of time taking out the P2 and pull it in the laptop on location, therefore it would demand allmost an extra crew man.
Because most of my scenes are with the Dolly or Crane and less Steadycam
I can mout the Firestore (stone whatever) on the support. What do you think? should I have to buy one P2 or do I not need it.

Thanks for your feedback,

Greeths,
Guy

I agree with David. One of each. Consider the P2 card as a backup to the Firestore and the Firestore as a backup to the P2 card. It gives you more options depending on your shooting situation.

Hey guy's,

Thanks for the advice I will folow it and take a extra P2 card, if I understand well the HVX200 can record the images together with the P2 and the Firestore at the same time
, indeed in that way it is a secure backup.

Thanks,
Guy

Go for the Firestore, its really a great device.
P2 cards are very expensive considering the reduced time they can record and you need to add a laptop at location everytime you shoot so you can empty them.
If the question is about Over/Undercranking, the DVCPro Frame rate converter in FCP will work great for you untill Focus delivers its native upgrade that is anounced to be out soon. By the way: you dint need to have a P2 card inserted in your camera to make FS100 work. Good Luck.

If you're on a budget, an 8Gig P2 card and the FS-100. I use both. I "thought" originally I'd use the FS-100 exclusively. Although I do 90% of my shooting with the FS-100, I find I do use my P2 cards on occation.

Thank a lot friends,

I think I will kick -off with the firestore and follow my needs.

Or get an FS-100 and have all that recroding time the CinePorter will give you in the future, but right now...
