Looking for a woman
firefox 3 is officially being released at 1pm eastern standard time. they're trying to set a world record for most software downloads in a 24 hour period, so if you're interested you can go to mozilla's website and check it out.

on a side note, i was looking up web browser statistics and didn't realize this many people still used ie.

internet explorer - 83.27%
firefox - 13.76%
safari - 2.18%
opera - 0.55%
netscape - 0.14%

I already have firefox 3 beta so don't think I'm downloading it, but if it's for a world record...........

Been using the beta version for a bit now. It does seem a bit easier on the system resources.

I kinda like how it uses your bookmarks to auto-complete when typing in the url.

I'm on board for the world record download.

I really like the Beta. I wonder if it will auto download the release "update" like it does with all other updates or if you will have to d/l the release version manually.

Thats because too many people automatically buy into whatever bill gates sells them.

Unfortunately most web users in Asia still only know about IE. Sad.

It's fun to watch Thai students come to our computer lab and try to find IE on the computers. After they've almost given up I walk over, click the BIG Firefox icon on the desktop, and then watch their eyes get big. Another mind opened to a world of alternatives.

First of all, "Bill Gates" has nothing to do with it. Guy doesn't even work at Microsoft anymore, does he? I think he spends his time giving away his own money as the worlds chief philanthropist. Warren Buffet even gave his fortune to Bill Gates to give away.

Second of all, those of us who use IE use it because it's "free," not because Bill Gates "sold" it to us . And, even though other alternatives are available for free, the key factor is: it's already installed. When you first turn on your brand new computer, IE is sitting there, ready to run. So people use it. It's more effort to go and find an alternative, download it, and run it, so people use what they've already got.

In other words: 95% of the world's computers run Windows. 100% of those computers have IE installed on 'em. To use anything else would take effort. Most people won't spend that effort, so they use what they've already got.

Another reason for the high IE number is that some people simply don't know any better. You ask them what browser they use and they look at you like you're from Mars. They don't even know what a browser *is*. All they know is they click on "Connect to the Internet" on the desktop and viola - they're on the Internet. I would imagine that's about 75% of the web-surfing population.

It's the same story with AOL. You would get a CD in the mail that would let you go check your email and surf the Internet and you would install the software and viola - you're on the Internet.

So a lot of it is simple ignorance (not necessarily in a negative context) by the mass majority of people that go online.

So many people don't even know this.

For the record, I currently use Firefox. Nothing against I.E. I just like trying different browsers.

On the other hand, a lot of people really don't care which tool they use- It's just an interface for the internet. It's the content they're after not the program that displays it.
Would dvxuser.com be any different if you used a different program to get here......?

I'm surprised their server is down. Were they not doing a world record download event?

Too bad for them.
