Hi, I have a soccer game I filmed for a team. The footage is all HD, I compressed it down to 3.1 Gigs so I thought it would fit it onto a DVD for them..but I'm getting problems..after looking around I see that most DVD's only hold 1 hour n 20 min. Is there any way of fitting the soccer game on 1 DVD.. without loosing the quality? The running time is 1 hour 44 min. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What software are you using for compression and authoring the DVD? A single layer SD-DVD can easily hold 120 minutes of good quality video.

I compressed it using compressor. I was trying it with IDVD.

iDVD is going to kill your video. Since you're working in FCP, you must have DVD Sutdio Pro. Use Compressor, and set it to the DVD setting for best quality 120 minutes. Then use DVDSP to author the disc.

And use Dolby audio instead of 48/16. It'll save you a bit of space without noticeable loss in audio (especially for a soccer game). Also remember, you need bandwidth for any menus you add in DVDSP.

Okay, let's get back to basics.

It's not how many gigabytes that is important with the initial movie, it's how total many minutes of video are involved in the original movie.

Do NOT compress the original movie to 3.1 GBs before using iDVD.

Export the movie self contained current settings.

If it is 90 minutes, it will comfotably fit on a single SD DVD using iDVD.

The mistake many people make it that they assume that movie must be under 4.3 GBs BEFORE they send it to iDVD or DVD SP for that matter.

It's the length of the video in total minutes once exported self contained current settings that is THE CRITICAL FACTOR

120 minutes will work fine in iDVD, although that is the upper limits and quality will be affected due to heavy compression.
