Fine Tuning the M2

Looks great dude ! I'm kind of a snob about my Nikon primes but the Sigma zoom looks really good. Looks like you have it pretty well sorted out to me.

Wow! All the different comments and business going on about which adapter's better, etc. etc. and I can't see a damned thing wrong with that. Incredibly sharp in my opinion. In the right hands tools like the HVX and M2 are working wonders.

That stuff looks really good. I should have mine by the end of the week. I'm getting giddy. Do you know which end of the lens you were at on the various shots? Were they all shot on the long end?
 
There may be no rhyme or reason to it, but it looks very nice. The colors are great, except for the red chair(?) on the rack focus at the midpoint of the clip. Are the blocky stair steps on your original footage, or is that due to compression for the web.

Again, very nice looking footage. I have been going back and forth on purchaisng this camera. Your footage makes me want to buy buy buy!

The M2 is impressing me too.

Wow, that stuff looks great! Nice and sharp. I've had my M2 for a month now but I'm out of the country so I haven't tested it yet. Can't wait. Hands down M2 is the best out there.

No, this is the origional acromat that came with the M2.

Do you know which end of the lens you were at on the various shots? Were they all shot on the long end?

This lens is 24-70 but I find that between 24 and 40 is useless.

We're going to try DV50 today.
 
super sweet looking. The 35mm adapter just pushes it over the top and makes it look so so so film-like. Congrats and I think you have it dialed in pretty well.


I am going to be getting the M2 at some point but I feel that I need to get the marshall monitor and a few other things to make it really work. From those already using it, what has been your assessment of the unit... need for accessories? What version and package would everyone recommend purchasing?

Justyn, I got the M2 and still haven't gotten an Marshal or any other external monitor. So far I'm doing pretty good just with the flip trick on the LCD (popping open the hinge cover and forcing the button down).

The biggest thing I felt I needed was a follow focus. Without the hard stops or an on-camera way to monitor focus (I'm so used to the numbers!) it gets tough to shoot and rack. Luckily the M2 follow focus ships next week.
 
Owen.. thanks for sharing. I too would want the FF and I really like the Marshall but that is a monitor that's easily 500 dollars too much.

Are you using a matte box?
 
Totally agree Owen. Focus and monitoring become MUCH bigger obstacles but I have a hard time justifying the purchase of that Marshall monitor too (at that cost). The Redrock FF looks very promising - I saw it at NAB.
 
Awesome looking footage carlone. I put my order in for the M2 and MicroFF this week so hopefully I'll be getting mine in a month or so. As far as the Marshall goes, I think it's a must have. I own one and have never been happier with a monitor purchase.
 
I got my Marshall monitor yesterday and it is really worth the money. The image quality is so good --- you can absolutely focus with it. That means I'm not strapped down to my Dell 2405 or the Sony 15-inch. I know it's expensive, but now that I have it, I can't imagine doing without.
 
Looks AMAZING!! I'd love to see some really colorful FULL SUN DAYLIGHT footage.. I hate to request something, but I'm really looking to buy this M2 thing this week, and everything I see looks a bit washed out, and a bit flat with color.. BUT IT ALL LOOKS GREAT!! I cant tell the difference between that and film on my computer screen.

I AM SOOOO SOLD on this.. Mostly because of your footage!

I have access to a full line of Arri superspeeds and a zoom, and would soooo love to get it going with this M2. It also UPS the rental value of the camera 100x!!!!!

Justyn: Yes, I'm using a mattebox, but it's currently the Chrosziel that I had on my DVX, so it is not an exact fit for the Nikons I have on the M2. However, the gap around the lens is very minimal, and if light from behind the lens becomes an issue I'll just blackwrap it. I'm not paying $100 just for another insert.

I'd love a Marshal, but it's so pricey. I'm using the M2 for feature work, so I currenly haul around a 19" CRT SVGA monitor (flipped upside down of course). It's not so bad since the environments I'm in are fairly controlled anyhow, but it's FAR from run and gun. I'm going to open it up tomorrow and try to re-wire it so the image is flipped. If it works I'll post pics of the procedure.

I ordered the HD achromat last week -- hope to see a bit of improvement in the corners of my image.
 
Owen - Please let us know what you think of the HD achromat when you get it.

I'm going over to EVS (here in Burbank) on Monda to check out the Marshall on my rig. Boy my credit card wants me to not like it :)
 
Guys - if anyone is around the LA area Sunday May 21 between 1 and 3 PM I'm going to help someone setup their HVX plus the HD achromat with the marshall monitor. We'll have the microFF on hand too.
