Finally shutter control???

canonrumors.com

Canonrumors said they had heard of someone else who had heard a rumour from someone at Canon that there might be a firmware upgrade in April.

'Might'. - Rumour.

I don't know if anyone has been paying attention, but there has been a firmware upgrade rumour pretty much every week or two since the camera was released.

Although I hope it's real this time, but it's funny to see yet another half rumour from an uninformed Canon rep at a trade show turn into 'A major upgrade coming in April'

It seems to go like this as it passes from person to person, forum to forum. . .

1) I was taking so some unnamed guy at a trade show and he said he thinks there might be a firmware update soon.
2) I have heard that Canon have said there will be a firmware update very soon.
3) I heard on the internet that Canon are definitely updating the firmware pretty soon, who knows maybe they will give us manual control.
4) I have heard that Canon are releasing a firmware update soon and it looks like they will be giving us manual control, it would be great if they put in 24p too.
5) I read that when Canon release the firmware update in April there will definitely be some new manual control, maybe shutter speed and aperture and possibly 24p.
6) I read that we are definitely getting 24p and maybe shutter speed and aperture control.
7) I hope that when Canon gives us the 24p and manual control I will be disappointed if they don't solve the aliasing problem.
8) I read that as well as 24p and full manual control, they might be doing something about the aliasing problem.

. . . . .and so on.

Correct. Pressing the shutter button half-way is misleading because it's metering for taking a still picture, not for the video mode.

I'm confused, the rational here would seem to say that everything I'm learning about light metering in a still photography class is useless if I shoot video??? Btw, I've been shooting with an HV20 using that exact half press method for metering as have all my brethren over at hv20.com. Would make sense that this is the way to go on the dslr.
