*big gulp*

Finally wrote the check for my very own HVX200. My day gig will likely be buying one in the future, but its off limits for after work stuff. Fair enough.

So hopefully soon, a shiny new HVX200 will be in my hands.

Even before I've taken delivery of my HVX, I got a gig for it. A green screen product shoot for a trade show display (HD-DVD authored and plasma screens). Horizontal and vertical screens.

cant wait.

anyone want to buy a slightly used JVC DV500? :D

congratulations! I just got mine yesterday night, won't get a chance to play with much till this weekend. (and I say much because c'mon who didn't spend 3 hours playing with the thing when they first got it? even if it was horrid shots of my black dog in a white background with no light sources hahaha!)

one gripe i have so far is the tape door feels a little bit light/flimsy in comparison to the rest of the camera. Specially since its a heavier camera as far as non shoulder type cameras go and I just wish they would have made that part out of metal like the other side since thats where the hand strap is for when handholding! There is a very tiny bit of play on that part and I dunno just feels a bit Fisher price when compared to the rest of the camera body.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I too thought that I'd never use the tape option and had considered putting in a little garden where it used to be.... BUT, for good or bad, I've shot quite a few things on DV for clients who didn't want HD.. and even more interestingly, I shot in HD for a client and then downconverted in the cam to DV.. they just wanted slow-mo footage and some timelapse on DV... When someone else is paying, ya got to do whatever they want.

I would advise all though to just throw a DV tape in the cam.. just in case ya can't swap to P2 or its full... or for whatever reason... you may have forgot the P2 cards or even more interestingly.. shoot more than the p2store can handle. Having that DV tape to atleast get an image is quite a life-saver....

Also, having not shot a lot of 24p DV prior to this cam... I'm still very impressed with the image and clients love it...

CONGRATS TO ALL WHO JUST GOT THE CAM. It makes shooting a lot of fun again, don't it? I can't wait to shoot my first narrative stuff on Monday. Had the camera since March but I've only shot live events and some doc stuff... but now I'm onto doing some controlled set-ups and forced stilted dialogue.. Yippee, atleast it will lookg good...
