Yes, the waiting is over and my HVX is sitting happily on the Focus.
I have to say a big thanks to this community and to the famous "desert" clip and to all the other first clip posters that made me switch from buying the HVX to the DVX100b (Which I still consider a fabulous cam) and making my waiting a lot easier that it could have been.
My take on the cam:
Upon opening the box, getting a first look and holding the cam I realized that it was really light and maybe the most beautiful piece of device I've ever layed my hands upon, there's a lot of emotion associated with me and this camera so you get the picture...
I was quick to find all the basic settings thanks to all the time I've spent around here. Only problem was the controls that are placed the wrong way, but guess I can live with that.
I switched to Cine D, all else manual and took some footage in my house and a little bit from the balcony...everything was shot miniDV since I'm getting the P2 card prob. next week->end of month. Though this wouldn't matter anyway since there's no NLE support yet. The footage absolutely rocks, this is one of hell of a camera, but I didn't expect anything less anyway...
I'm still trying to figure out primary stuff, so I'll take my time in learning the settings. The manual is ok and the translation fine. There's a list for almost every functionality and reading it certainly helps alot. I liked the tree diagram of all the menu settings. I guess Barry's book will make a fine addition.
I managed to hook up the Mac mini with the internal drive as capture (108050i 25p) and it captured fine for the 4 minutes I tested it, the clip also played back fine in realtime and from the internal disk, the footage was crap but that was because I didn't care about that, I only wanted to know how capture works in FCP and I assure you its fine!
So that's it for now. I'll post some clips when I can find a way to host them.
Cheers!
