FINALLY!! AF100 HACK Pledge

they'd simply be following the well-established practices of video camera makers like Canon, Nikon, and... Panasonic:
Trust me, I have pointed this out to them over and over. I've been lobbying for "AVCPRO50" since the HMC150 first came out. For whatever reason, they have not chosen to do that yet. And yes, I've pointed out to them that they did this exact same thing with the TM900 -- but, to be fair, the 900 went outside the spec but "in advance" -- because its nonstandard recording format actually became AVCHD 2.0. Which is the same thing Sony put in the FS100. So it's entirely possible that they had a handshake agreement behind the scenes for that format already, I don't know.

I red Barries remarks and it sounded like a car salesman trying to sell me what he has in his showroom and telling me that it is what he thinks is good for me. What I want is just not good for me at all. Sorry Barry, I respect you for what you contribute to this forum, but in this case I have to disagree with you. Please join the AF100 improvement movement and lets hack this little beauty.

Why are you worried about hacking the AF-100 if it's not what you want? Plenty of other cameras out there.

Though I'd be curious to know what it is you're shooting exactly that the AF-100 won't properly give you what you want...or even the GH2 for that matter.

I think we can keep this thread moving without being insulting, yeah? Please feel free to disagree with anyone on this board. But stick to the points you want to make without throwing in a cheap shot.

What may serve as the final word for the time being:

It's almost a year old. The article I cited came out five months later, immediately following Panasonic's AVC-Ultra press release. Panasonic announced the AF100 nearly two years ago. Sure, the HPX250 is larger than the AF100, but the HPX250's design is a year old. By this time, I expect Panasonic to have reduced the size of 10-bit-capable circuit boards sufficiently to fit into a consumer, or at least smaller prosumer, form factor. Otherwise, what was the point of the AVC-Ultra Long-G announcement, if it wasn't, in all its low-bit-rate-for-consumers goodness, being developed for an actual product?

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a Samurai (gonna get a closer look at NAB) because I'm tired of the two step ingest process into FCP (SD card into NEXTO, then transcode via ClipWrap). I'd rather be dragging and dropping ProRes 422 on the timeline. Doubt any "hack" is going to improve address that workflow "problem". Looking hard at SSD to avoid any spinning HD problems in the field. Can also use the Samurai on HDX 900 (another camera I use a lot).

We have one bid from an Engineering company based in Turkey.
I have no idea what to ask in an interview other than any relevant experience.
Does anyone more qualified want to take a stab at this?
The bid is $12,500.

Bid to do what; hack the AF-100? How can they bid it when they have no idea what needs to be done? They have no experience with anything even remotely applicable. If you want them to build a motion control crane or something similar, they have some related experience. But hack the AF-100; no.

What he said. Nothing in their bid has anything to do with video acquisition electronics. I suspect we already know the names of the guys that would have a shot at hacking the beast.

Will this hack resemble anything to the likes of the almost forgotten Hydra system for the HVX from like 5 years ago?

RAW
14-bit Uncompressed (4:4:4:4) color space
86db of dynamic latitude
2k image capture directly to a hard drive.

It would certainly give Scarlet a run for its money.

No. That wasn't even a hack really. That was an external recording system that was fed directly from the imaging sensor.

However, there is talk of working on one for the GH2.
