Many would love to see a AF100 hack and I know Vitaly has his principles and rational for not hacking the AF100 even though he claims he can, and I don't doubt it. So that wasn't a tenuous attempt at reverse psychology. I would like to see a robust 50Mbs 4:2:2 in my AF100. I can only imagine 50Mbs would be more than enough with all that is already good and great about the AF100. Anyway, going back and forth and whatnot and betting. I agree, stop. If a donation page was set up, as suggested by one highly esteemed individual here, for a hack that was successful, how much is this worth to you?
For me, it mean's I'm probably not getting the next AF200 or whatnot and I'd be glad to make a donation of $500 plus. Matter of fact, I'm almost 95% sure I'm not getting the AF???, I'm done chasing. I've been chasing since DVX100 and buying the cameras hot off the bakery. I only buy these cameras for my own projects. I'm not a full time professional shooter like the vast majority here. I'm an opportunist, seasonal shooter. Anyway, the AF100 is enough. I only bought the GH2 because of its stealth factor, the ability to steal great shots, permits be damned! Yeah, Tom! LOL! So my mouth says $500 minimum. I'd gladly put my money where my mouth is. I would donate $500 for a reliable hack and I don't need it to be 176mbs. If the AF is doing so well with 4:2:0 24mbs, I'm sure 4:2:2 50mbs will be fantastic without taxing the camera or NLE systems. Take Apple for instance. I hear they have iPhone version releases stacked 5-10 deep - all at various stages of development. Why don't they just pump the best out now? Nah, bit by bit to keep us buying, keep us chained to the product and chasing the best product. I for one am proud that I never bought an iPhone but I did get suckered into buying every single panny since DVX100. I'm older now, not richer, not poorer, but less susceptible to entrepreneurial prestidigitation I hope, dreams still alive and as it stands, the AF100 is enough for me but a hack would definitely slam the door shut on my money drain. I'll shoot with my AF100-H and focus on telling a good story that trumps pixels. I mean seriously, I'm no peeper, just an aspiring writer-director. Even as a shooter, I think clients hire you for your body of work, not the camera, right?
Bottom line. Enough already. This hack or no hack discussion is almost taking on the stature of the dreaded crop factor chronicles! How much is this HACK worth to you? How much would you donate? Please chime in and let's see how many of us would be grateful. Yes, GH2 folk may outnumber AF100 people 500:1 but I think we still have a considerable following.
All Hail Vitaly!
