FINALLY!! AF100 HACK Pledge

I'll chip in $200 too. I have a hacked GH2 and just bought an AF100 last week to use in a proper shoot. 50mb/s would be cool. 4-2-2 on SD card would be cool too. Cant wait for ze good news. (:

It is not vaporware. We have odds of 100:1 from Kenny G that the hack is executable. That makes it a lock. :)

well then get Kenny G to get on with it - because I think you'll find that Vitaliy ain't keen on the idea

No harder than it was setting up the GH2 page or setting up kickstarter page, I imagine.

well you imagine wrong - the GH1/2 donation setup cost in both time and money - it was a giant PITA

look guys, I'm not trying to be unduly negative - just realistic. I too have an AF100 and would love to see the hack on it but all we're doing here is pissing in the wind.

Unfortunately, I don't believe the AF100 supports the UHS SD cards .. IMHO, it would take one heck of a mod to support them.

Then piss along with us, mate, or zip up your fly and spectate. We are going to try. They said man couldn't fly, couldn't walk on the moon, couldn't clone a sheep, couldn't get 200 people into a sedan, etc... Nissan said the GTR35 couldn't be hacked, now Godzilla roams the streets with 1500hp, triple the stock power. Nissan GTR35, $80K - a Bugatti Veyron Killer!

Every great accomplishment of man was once a dream, or as you put it, a piss in the wind. There've been so many things people have told me I couldn't do in my young life and my only regret at this point is not trying. Let us not be circumscribed by the circumference of the minds of others who would gladly project their own limitations and failures upon us. They wield words like "can't' like a saber and have "impossible" proudly emblazoned on their flags. They hold the patent on "no." They are the negativity-mongers, vanguards of despair and the pallbearers of dreams. By their words will you know them, by their presumptuous authority on negativity. Flee them, I say. Flee! Flee, lest your dream wither away and die. All in all, mate, we'll try. At the very least, at the end of the day, we'll have empty bladders and clean albeit wet salty faces. We might even find visors and stay dry.

How much is this hack worth to you? That's the purpose of this thread. How much? If it's worth nothing, ignore us. If need be, I can get buy a $35 blog template, hire a programmer for $200, clean it up and voila we have our donation page linked to paypal. It'll take one day, mate. One bloody day. Done it before. Negativity??? What negativity.

The AF100 does. No mod required. It's just a faster card. Why would it need a mod?
My UHS-1 SD cards give me over 10 hours of recording time on my AF100. I bought two just for the GH2 and most definitely intend to use them in the AF100 whether it gets hacked or not.
Unless of course you're referring to cards other than the one's linked here:

This time, we're doing the leg work. All he has to do is sit back, take the money and hack.
Besides, just incase you haven't read the entire thread, he has responded to the initial letter and invited conversation on the topic.

Pot now at $8,000!

What's it worth it you?
What's this hack worth?

Anyone considering using a hack in their AF100 (should it becomes possible and viable) may want to take a look at the process involoved in doing so.

Do some research into how one hacks the GH2 for example.

Hacking your camera is not as simple as just saying " I want to hack my camera"

It pretty much is. Hacking my GF1 was just about the easiest thing I have ever done.

I got a PM. I've taken the name out and posted it out here. I made some errors, it appears and you have my apologies. Utterly sorry.

Here's the PM.

I just heard back from Vitaly. He understandably expressed a reluctance to join this conversation with "rabid AF100ers," but asked me to open up a PM discussion with him over at Personal View... Obviously, the first goal is to get VK to agree to hack, then we can go for some basic goals. GH2 User by Capitalistic expedience, I meant profit-driven expedience...

Not to snark, as I'd like to see an AF100 hack and would definitely be interested in developing patches for it. But I doubt you scored any points with Vitaliy with appeals to "Capitalistic expedience" or accolades to Driftwood. Vitaliy is Russian, and I'd describe his criticisms of Panasonic as anti-capitalistic, to put it mildly. And while Vitaliy has collaborated with cbrandin on technical analysis of GH2 firmware, patch developers like Driftwood and myself have played relatively minor roles in the primary task of hacking the GH2 itself. We have all been 100% dependent on Vitaliy's dedication to these projects, and without him, absolutely nothing would have happened.

MY RESPONSE:

Thanks for the input, thanks for highlighting errors. It would be truly helpful only if you finish this off with some sound counsel. Especially since it seems you're in the know. What shall we do to salvage the situation? I for one thought Vitaly and Driftwood were the same. I thought that was his nickname! LOL! Goodness gracious.
Can we change the title to all hail Vitaly??

And let me point out that you should re-read that letter because, unless I'm mistaken, I do state an anti-capitalistic stance. Capitalistic expedience on the part of panasonic simply refers to corporate greed which we can all relate to. Russian to the core, yes! It's bloody obvious. If his name doesn't give it away, his syntax does. This I knew and made a calculated stab.
I think my biggest error here was not posting the letter before sending it to him. I could have had some input and made necessary corrections, 200 heads are better than one.
You PM me on this but I'm going to post this out (removing your name) but these discussions need to be out in the open so we can all have input and have a stronger campaign.
All in all, much appreciated. Can we PM a moderator to change our title to all Haill Vitaly? I'll do it.

You know he did respond, by the way. Errors notwithstanding. Cheers.

Get a grizzled looking actor type to spout these words on the bow of a sailboat, water crashing over the bow as he makes his way around the world and you've got the makings of a great film!
