So after waiting more than 2 months for my Jupiter 8 50mm to arrive from Russia, I realized that it was sent to an address that I wasn't expecting. Tomorrow it would have been sent back and finally figured it out today, that it's been sitting in the post office for over a month while I sit in agony checking the mail box every day for it to arrive. So just tested this little beast out, and I am VERY pleased :love4: $40, and it's pretty much my favorite lens already haha. Granted I only have a few lenses total, but I am loving this thing. The focus ring is so silky smooth, never felt anything like it before. The focus ring on a lot of modern lenses requires a really "short throw" to focus to a different plane, but on the Jupiter? It's like an old car without power steering, you gotta crank it a bit and it's much more forgiving.

I only got a few seconds of footage with it so far, but I know there are few people who are interested in this lens and what it looks like on the gh2. There's really only a couple very short clips on Vimeo with it, and it's hard to judge what it really looks like. So I'll be posting a quick vid maybe tonight or tomorrow. But for so little money, you really can't lose with the Jupiter.

Soviet glass is awesome! Too bad it takes so long to get it shipped to the U.S.. I'd like to see a good test of this lens, there are hardly any good shorts or tests being shot on some of these soviet lenses.. For what it's worth, I shot this video last week using a LOMO 50, 28, and 35 as well as some canon glass. But it's incredible how sharp Russia was able to make these lens for how old they are.

Yeah, I'd really like to look into getting some lomos. The jupiter line is so cheap and has a certain aesthetic that I really like. Just shot a couple test clips right after I excitedly tore open the package.

Here's an example (year old) of a Jupiter 9 in an interior, in low light (a reading lamp bounced off a sheet of paper lighting the subject).

I'm also a big fan of Soviet glass, and have 3 Helios lenses, including the big tank that shot this...love the swirly bokeh from these lenses.
