Final Thoughts Before Shoot

So, I start shooting a documentary this week. I am going to edit in a 23.98 fps timeline (FCP) so I'll shoot in 24pA unless there are more compelling reasons to shoot in 24p. I'd like to hear them.

My final output will be in 16:9 to DVD so I'd like to shoot in 'squeeze'.

If anyone out there would like to offer their experience on why I shouldn't pursue these choices, I'd be happy to hear from you.

Cheers,

John

Nothing fancy in camera. Just looking for a good clean image with a little more contrast. CC will be done in post. Thanks for the reply.

Cheers,

John

try shooting letterbox, it will give you more resolution to work with in post, especially if you are going to color correct. I don't know why, but when i try to color correct with FCP, i always degrade the image quality and it gets wavy, buy i'll try to solve that in another post.

You should have tested any setup your thinking of right through post and to your final delivery format. Don't guess, KNOW!

Unless of course you like to create mountains of footage and then discover what you should have done after its too late to change.

Craig,

Correct you are! I have tested all kinds of variations and that's how I came up with my final decisions. I was just wondering if there might have been something I missed. Thanks for weighing in.

Cheers,

John
