Final pre-plunge question please

Hi,

Just about to take the plunge and grab an HVX and suddenly I saw this thread about what will HVX owners do when laptops no longer have PCMIA slots. I was under the impression that all I needed to transfer to my laptop was a USB or firewire cable?? Have I thought wrong? Do I now have to factor in a new laptop?!

True. Firewire works fine.

You can get faster results with a PCMCIA slot on your computer,
or with an PCMCIA adapter.

Check out the numerous threads and stickies on P2 workflow for
details.

Now go buy your HVX200a and start shooting!

They EC/34 to PC CardBus II adapters work quite well when they work

Sorry there was one more thing that's a bit of a confusion. From what i'm reading, there is now an HVX200A which is the update to the 200, however I can't seem to find the 200A here in the UK. Is it something that's only released stateside or something? None of the dealers here seems to carry a 200A??

Hi, I'm not 100% sure of this but I think that here in the UK our version of the new HVX is the HVX-201AE (see link)

Using Firewire (Mac) or USB (PC) is fine but much slower that using the car slot and remember, while the camera is connected you can't film with it. However, I use the camera to download to Final Cut Pro over Firewire and I get by fine.

That's correct Deaniweenie, the HVX201AE is the 200A over in Europe.

ish--I worded that backwards--the HVX200A is the 201AE in Europe. My mistake!
