Iv'e yet to start ingesting my footage into FC6 and Im wondering if there is a codec i can download to enable the viewing edit straight away similar to my EX1 work flow or do I have to capture it and convert into pro res first?
I think you may be best going to FCP7 as that has better AVCHD options and pro res LT is the best ingest codec for 1920x1080 at 24mbs.
I have a canon HF11 and load the AVCD from that at pro res LT and it works very smoothly.
There are workarounds for getting ProRes LT and Proxy in FCP 6. And you can use Clipwrap to change the MTS file into a .Mov that FCP can play back. But let me tell you, the playback precision performance sucks bad, worse then EX1 Mpg2 Long Gop. If you're a power editor that really needs precision snappy as hell editing you won't get it with the AVCHD clips, no matter what Mac your running. The nice thing about the Log and Transfer window is that seems to be Grand Central powered and it will transcode your AVCHD footage to Pro Res with all the cores and speed your computer can muster. Which is pretty crazy considering not even the general render engine in FCP can do this, so it goes pretty fast is what im saying.
