Final Cut Studio HD Multicam Playback Issues????

I have 4 HVX's shooting directy to a FS-100 each with synced timecode.

Editing on Mac Pro 2.66 with 2.5 TB RAID 0 Storage on eSATA External array. Decklink Multibridge Extreme, 5GB RAM, 256MB Graphics card. Speed test comes back with 185 MB/sec read speed on RAID.

I multicam synced all four cameras but cannot edit it in real-time. I am forced to down convert video to a low res for real-time playback. This sucks!

Activity monitor says I have more than enough RAM that is being untouched. Capture scratch is separated to a different RAID with render files, autosave, cache, etc.... for more disk speed.

Why Can't I playback video in real-time in DVCPro HD native res? What do I need to make this work in FCP before I just dump Apple and go back to Avid?

HI dpavid,

I've successfully used Multicam with 9 DV Pal streams on our "old" 2.0 DP G5 with 3 Gb ram and firewire 800 external Hds.
Now the point is to select in the Timeline RT Unlimited, Dynamic frame rate and Dynamic quality.
Then use one single Monitor so the 256MB are all for that one.
Finally once you've created the Multiclip File (not sequence) open it in the Viewer and see if you can play it in real time. If yes, then select the main one for Video and Audio and hit assemble so the multiclip will be on the timeline.
Play it from the Canvas and after few seconds start clicking different multiclip in the Viewer. Probably at first you'll get the usual Message (not enough Ram, hd speed etc), play it again from the Canvas and try clicking in the Viewer again.

Some times I had to do it twice before it works nicely, but I've seen that the main problem for us was when we had two 23"Display connected to our G5 and 9800 Pro 256Mb, after disconneting the second one everything was working nicely again.

Anyway for HD stream I'll give a try I think it'll depends also on the format 1080 or 720p. But I'll let you know.

I've done the test w/h 4 streams 1080i nulticlip they work nicely but skipping (Dynamic f rate on) some frames on the G5 and FW800, so should work better on yours, I guess that 720p would be nicer...no time to check.
